Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. Soon brekkies and purtification for work will ensue. Apparently the big topic of trainin’ today is “Who Are Our Customers?” Ummm… the people who call in… duh! I figure I got this one aced.
rigs hang in there about the job. You know sometimes things are slow when it comes to deciding who gets the job but we’re all bettin’ on you.
phil I don’t know what it is here in Jawja but if it’s that low in Michigan, I wonder if it’s even lower here.
Up and caffeinating - I think my eyes are open now.
Good luck with the job, Rigs. I like politics too but reached my saturation point weeks ago, I’m afraid.
Welcome back, SpecialOne! That is a long run of holidays; glad to hear that you got some rain, though. And it’s good to have you back - don’t be a stranger … I think Room 304 is still open, isn’t it?
I’m sneezing my fool head off today! Stoopit allergies. I guess I’ll take a pill.
It’s raining today, and supposed to tomorrow. But Friday we’re getting a cool front, and the humidity will go down and we’ll have cool mornings again, just in time for the weekend! Yay!
There are no lunches today so I slept in. I’m just getting ready to forage for breakfast and then maybe pay some delightful bills. Sometime later today I’ll head off to TVLand for the evening.
P.S. Subway’s new Chicken Pizziola sub is ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE.
Happy news! The VunderLair is short a cat, and it’s a good thing. VWife has this annoying habit of fostering critters for the shelter, and from time to time one of the fosters will ‘die’, to remain with her.
W-e-e-e-e-e-ll, she acquired Bunny this way. Bunny is a Siamese cat, and was annoying as hell. Besides putting us way over the tail quota of 2, she was an obnoxious little ball of fur.
Bunny went to a new home last night with a young couple who fell in love with her immediately, and plan on keeping her as an only cat. There’s still an extra cat, and an extra dog, in the house.
li-li, I’d love to watch gnat! Will he fit in the CD drive? I don’t DO dishes though.
Slowly, slowly getting the groove back. Weird, though, I’m still getting visual flashes of Italy. Must have really imprinted on my brain. My brother is sending a photo CD today in the mail. Yay!
fcm, you guys have done a tremendous job on that apartment. Kudos!
We got an e-mail from the COO asking us if we’d rather have a holiday party or a larger holiday bonus. DUH???
I hate that - what if you’d been there without the mister. How would the vendor have treated then, I wonder.
That kitty grew real fast!
and gave up.
I had a very nice weekend - photos and details later (after I edit). I’d taken Monday off because we didn’t have the holiday day - I so wanted to sleep in yesterday, but they wouldn’t like that very much so I took today of instead at about 3pm yesterday - I have a buncha errands to run, then some bills to pay, then I’ll be back and make you all go “awwwwwwww” over my cute grandniece and grandnephew
doggio, I forgot to mention how jealous I am that Thrak is still a shoulder cat. Morgan the Wise used to be one of those when she was wee, but seems to have grown out of it now that she’s fully grown (she’s also outgrown being picked up and cuddled, but thankfully hasn’t outgrown the need to spend most of her time curled up on the nearest available human lap).
LiLi, right about now, I’d happily trade work for washing dishes and watching baby. Sadly, the boss seems to have a different idea of what my priorities should be, so I’m stuck staring at a spreadsheet instead. grumble
Spaz, I’ve got fingers crossed that Petercat comes home soon, with many stories of his adventures and feats of derring-do to share.
Ok, change of plans… I will not be going to TVLand this afternoon because I have a breakfast due at 6:45 in the morning which will require me to be at work at at least 5 a.m. if not earlier. And, since TVMan lives an hour from the shop and I live 6 minutes from the shop, I’ll be staying here. Oh well, there’s always Friday.
IS the board acting a little strangely for anyone else, or is it just my copy of google chrome being stupid?
Up, moving, doing some chores. I’ve promised to try to repair the rips in Mr. Lissar’s leather jacket, and to make crackers, but I didn’t promise today. I’m making crackers because of an expensive and terrible addiction (mostly on Mr. Lissar’s part) to black pepper and olive oil triscuits, and a type of sesame garlic crackers. At a box a sitting, it gets pricey.
Well, drat. I’ve been trying to work, but things keep happening. So now I’ve declared it lunchtime. I’ve got 5 more minutes until my highly nutritious lunch comes out of the oven (tater tots).
I do wonder why most companies do have a holiday party every year when, I’d think, it’s obvious that most people would prefer extra cash to a party with your coworkers.
Glad the kitty found a home bobbio.
Hope Petercat comes home soon, spaz!
I think we could get by on $5.86/person/day for food. Assuming that is per person per day and only for food (other expenses coming from somewhere else). That’s $351.60 for a couple for 30 days. We usually spend more than that, but that’s because I like to get natural meats (no antibiotics, no growth hormones, etc.) when I can, and we like expensive cheeses once in a while. Basically we splurge on food because we can, but both my husband and I are still close enough to our respective grad school days that we remember how to get by on ~$150/person/month for groceries.
Mornin’… caffeine still blurping in the kitchen–WANT!
Spaz, Pratchett got out yesterday and Himself was beside himself with worry–Widget and I went for a walk around the neighborhood and I think we spooked him because Himself says he came barreling down the street, literally running hell for leather, back to our yard right about the time Widget and I were coming up the bike trail behind him. So I have all kinds of good hopes that Petercat will be back soonest. As for your reaction to that article–I didn’t get that impression at all, especially after reading the followup from a few days later. He has a really good point, in that being white in America automatically grants a “benefit of the doubt” in many areas that other races just don’t get. The article I linked to was specifically targeted toward the current political situation and he makes some excellent points–that the white candidates are not only getting away with but are completely unassailable on behaviors and associations that would be huge freakin’ deals if a nonwhite candidate were involved. It’s definitely something to think about, and I’m very happy that this election is spotlighting some hitherto unexamined racial and gender issues–these are things that should be part of our national discourse that have been left completely unexamined during the last two administrations, and longer than that to a lesser degree. Whereas I detest the reactions we’ve been seeing lately I think it’s good to get it out in the open–racism is an ugly cancer we’ve all been suffering from for generations and it’s just time to get the hell over it. It’s such a nonissue–why are we even still allowing this nonsense to pass unchallenged? Don’t we have more important things to worry about than melanin levels?
We could eat just fine on $5.86/person/day, as long as we got it all at once in a lump sum. I have a freezer and I’m not afraid to use it! It’s amazing what you can do if you’re willing to spend a bit of time prepping your food to keep costs down. Buying in bulk, separating into meal size chunks, buying fresh veggies in season and freezing them, doing your own baking–heck, our grocery bill is usually less than that by about fifty bucks for the two of us and we eat like minor royalty!
Pie, why doesn’t TVMan come to your place?
FCM, the apartment looks fabulous, if a bit technicolor! That’s gonna add some equity once the market picks up…
BooFae, check my comments on the recipe blog for Death Chicken and see if that looks good to you–I think my changes really sharpen up the dish. Also, if you used a glass pan, change to metal because it makes the bacon crisp up considerably which is a major factor in turning the dish from “okay” to “holy crap, I’ll stab you to get the last piece!” I’ve made it with just thighs and with mixed breast and thighs and either one is good but I think breast only wouldn’t be right–a little dry and wouldn’t add enough flavor. It really needs the extra moisture and flavor from the dark meat to stand up to the strong flavors of the rest of the ingredients. Take the skin off the chicken, too, I think since it wouldn’t brown (as it cooks covered) the skin would end up kinda snotty and yuck, as well as adding too much fat to a dish that doesn’t need it. Oh, and my oven is a tad slow so I’ve found that two hours at 325F is better than 300F…
I didn’t see the followup, but I think the original article could have been a bit more bipartisan. Surely Democrats/Greens/Libertarians are just as guilty of taking advantage of White Privilege (and I’m so glad that was spelled correctly the whole way through–the misspelling with a “d” gets on my last nerve) as well as the Republicans. Also the style grated on me, especially the repetition. It seemed like he was beating his point right through the crust of the earth and straight into the upper mantle by the end of it.
I’m drinking coffee #3 of the day (and not little coffees, might I add… I’m guzzling XLs, baby). Despite that, my eyes are still drifting shut of their own volition.
