My wife's peanut butter cookies are my Achilles heel

There’s probably nothing all that special about her recipe, but whenever my wife makes peanut butter cookies, I can’t help but down them all within a 24 hour period. I try and leave some for the kids, but I’ve gotten to the point now where I tell them to just get one quick because daddy’s out of control.

It doesn’t help that she now just makes a double batch by default. She thought that would make it more likely that others would get one. Ha! Little does she know she’s just fattening me up even faster.

What is a food that someone makes that you just can’t control yourself around? I’m not talking a certain type of food. I’m talking something specific that someone specific makes that turns you into a ravenous dog when it’s put in front of you. Your mother-in-law’s spinach artichoke dip? Your brother’s honey-glazed ribs? Your boss’ daughter’s ambrosia salad?

Since your thread wasn’t getting any attention, I decided I wanted to participate!

A point though, I find a distinct difference between things someone else cooks that if you have an opportunity to eat, and those that someone else cooks specifically for you.

My paternal grandmother was a complicated and very unhappy woman. My father loved her, but she treated him, my mother, myself and my brother poorly by our standards although not not absolutely so by the standards of her generation.

But, for all her flaws, when we’d go over for dinner, she’d make me (specifically) amazing baked chicken wings, as well as her unspeakably divine sugar cookies (that were for everyone). My brother and I (single-digit kids at the time) would all but attack each other to devour them before they were gone.

So one circumstance, which shows both types.

If I say so myself, my baked kale chips are irresistible. To me, at least. I’ll make a couple cookie sheets full, thinking “well, that’ll be a nice few days’ worth of snacks”, and whaddya know, those hot crisp savory-bitter little vitamin pops come out of the oven and get dumped into a container to cool, and half an hour later the container is empty. Honestly, more like fifteen minutes.

Fortunately, kale chips aren’t very fattening. I do manage not to eat them all at once when I’m making them for guests, because my guests tend to like them too.

Similarly, I can get through a frightening amount of my homemade gazpacho at one sitting. We’re talking a recipe that starts with a two-pound can of crushed tomatoes and ends up being easily twice that volume after the water and chopped vegetables and seasonings are added. Yeah, that vat of gazpacho doesn’t always survive the afternoon.

I don’t seem to have this reaction to other people’s special dishes, however delicious they may be. Or maybe I’d just be too embarrassed to chow down on an entire recipe’s worth of some food in front of another person.

I can’t think of anything that someone else makes that I can’t stop eating, but I have a few things that I will no longer make because I cannot control myself and will eat it all.

Cooked chocolate pudding and it’s delicious pudding skin. No control, I will eat the whole bowl in one sitting. I love it when it’s still warm.

Marshmallow bars - Melt chocolate chips, butter and peanut butter together then when that is slightly cool, stir in mini marshmallows. Spread in a pan and chill. I will eat all of that.

I don’t even know what these are called but - Mix over-ripe mashed bananas, chocolate chips, shredded sweetened coconut and oatmeal together. Drop by spoonful on baking sheet and bake. I will eat them all.

Just thinking of these makes me want to go make them all!

My gf is really good at making a curry. It can be lamb, beef, chicken, fish, or veggie. Anytime she makes a curry I eat an extra helping or two. She doesn’t have any recipe that she follows, so I have to stay with her forever.

I like peanut butter cookies when they’re moist. :yum:
Nice snack in the afternoon.

Kroger used to sell Ranger cookies in the deli. I couldn’t resist eating too many. Sadly I haven’t seen them at kroger in a long time.

Online recipe. There’s several cereals in it.
