My world, and welcome to it; a pictorial MMP

My poor daughter has had a rather frustrating day. She went to school and things were going well, until her humanities professor insisted they do their essays from a book that no one can obtain yet. Then she took the bus to work after class, but got off too early and had to hoof it a good ways. When she got to work, she found out that her boss scheduled for work on 1:30 on Wednesday. That’s a school day for her, and the earliest she can get there is 2:30.

So, after visiting her at work, we told her we’d try to locate and purchase the book for her. We cannot find it locally, although we can get it through Amazon. The earliest it can be here is two to six business days, and she needs it before then. So, I found a place where she can pay to download it. She’ll still need the book for class, though, so essentially, she’s going to have to buy it twice. This will not make her happy.

Anyone got The Forbidden Book: The Phillipine American War in Political Cartoons handy? Thought not…

Dinner is in the oven. We’re having unfried baked chicken (a weight watchers recipe) and Those Friggin’ Good Potatoes.

After dinner, I have to drive my son to downtown Puyallup for a King of the Hill football game. Picking him up is going to be hassle, because the game will end about the time my daughter gets off work. So, I’m going to be late for one of them.

The easy thing would be to have my husband pick one of them up, but his car is blocked in by my daughter’s and she accidently took the keys with her today.

We went out to lunch to our local version of Bad Chinese. That’s the first and LAST time we eat there. The service was good, but the food just wasn’t that great.

working a whole week after being sick a whole week is wearying. I did not skim, so I hope I haven’t missed anything important or otherwise cool. Please forgive me.

Chorus suprised me with an early birthday cake last night.

I am going to work on Monday’s OP over the weekend. I might even put it up Sunday night.

Meanwhile (aw, you know the drill…)

'Ullo, all. Off to bed soon. Tried to watch the debate, but franky, McPalin just irked me too much. And I am so tired from work that I couldn’t follow much. Got home around 9pm.

I am off tomorrow, which is good, though. #2 son has a soccer game and I need to run. Didn’t read, sorry. Night, all.

Oh but I did read the NOT recipe and will make it Sunday. Thanks!

I watched the debate and I wanna slap McSame’s annoying smirky Grampaw face right off, revealing the Lizard Planet Overlord that inhabits his earthly shell. Yeah.

You may stand upwind in awe of me for I am Allium Woman! I bought a HUGE bag (like 5-6 lbs for 6.99, w00t!) of peeled garlic cloves from the local veggie stand. In order to use up that huge bag I tossed those cloves in olive oil, tossed them into baking pans, sprinkled them with a bit of kosher salt and baked them, stirring them around every ten minutes or so to make sure they didn’t stick. Then I shoveled them into the Magic Bullet thingie and turned them all into a sticky melty garlicky paste suitable for dipping ice cream into… Well, maybe not that but I definitely dipped some baguette into it. I have a lot of it in the fridge but the majority of it is in ice cube trays in the freezer. I’m going to make a whole shitload of 2 tablespoon or so ice cubes of frozen roasted garlic that can be easily chucked into hot pasta or nuked back to squishiness.

Then, since the house already smelled like that I made onion soup for dinner–well, allium soup, really, since I used Walla Walla sweet onions, shallots and leeks in a peppery beef stock–I also added a dollop of the roasted garlic paste toward the end of the simmering time. The croutons were slices of baguette soaked in the leftover oil the garlic was roasting in then baked crispy, then smeared with roast garlic and baked a while longer. Floated croutons in soup, topped with shredded gruyere and slid under the broiler for a minute to bubble up. I feel as though I shouldn’t speak directly to anyone until I’ve chewed a large bouquet of parsley but I don’t care, it was faaaaabulous!

Home. Very tired. Beer needed.

Ok, it’s a bad technology night here. In trying to fix one problem I’ve created another. I think it’s time to go to bed.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. I’ve been told I’m being taken to lunch at the good Chinese place today. YAY!!! We also have to attend a little bday party for a five year old. She likes to draw and color, so I got her a bunch of those nice washable markers, a bunch of construction paper and some coloring books. Stuff is cheap at the Dollah Tree. Shout out to doggio!

Off to work. Very tired. Coffee needed.

God is punishing me for my misdeeds last night. He woke me up in time to go to water aerobics.

Morning! Going to be very busy! Love you all bye!

Howdy all. Just back from girlies’ lunch in time to make a second batch of Ricotta Fritters (by special request of MIL!). This time I remembered to take a photo, for your viewing pleasure! We were supposed to be going out for Iftar tonight, to the Moevenpick Hotel’s Iftar Buffet, but hubby doesn’t want to miss out on the fritters, so we will go tomorrow night instead! Yes folks, they are that good!

Oh, before I go back to being busy, {Muppet, I have an uncorrected proof of Simon Hopkinson’s Second Helpings of Roast Chicken. It’s wonderful.

So, your husband would rather “fritter” his time away than go to a nummy buffet. HAH! I get funnier and funnier!

Hi, y’all.

I’ve been trying to be productive but I have got a mutha of a headache today. I took some aspirin, and I’ve eaten breakfast, but nothing’s working. :frowning:

Maybe I’ll take a nap.

O, god–those fritters have me thinking about the grocery store. And Smartie’s garlic dip is making me swoon…

I have to RUN, dammit. I am trying to get into SHAPE, people! Y’all are sirens on the shores of my life. Get thee behind me, Satans!

Off to run and think of garlic and potatoes and hot, melty sweet ricotta as dessert.
Gah. (I bet if you dip the fritters into dark melted chocolate, your head explodes from pleasure).

Good morning everyone. I’m up and caffienating.

My daughter now has a cold. Damn, I hope I don’t catch it from her. I’ve been fighting one for days, and I thought I had it beat, but now I’m worried her cold germs will invade me. I gave my daughter some Dayquil. Hopefully, it’ll minimize the symptoms for her anyway.

Anyway, the poor thing is pretty miserable, but she has to work today. Her boyfriend is driving down before work to give her some more driving lessons.

We’re going to a 99 party at our next door neighbor’s place tonigh. I’m looking forward to it. It should be fun.

So glad that it’s the weekend, even if it is rainy, damp and humid.

Paul Newman has passed away. :frowning: It is definitely the end of an era; be on the lookout for a retrospective on TCM.

Dotty, those ricotta fritters look sooo delicious!! Thanks for the pic, even though I’m seriously close to drooling on my keyboard now.

I haven’t heard anything from my cousin down in Tidewater yet this weekend; she’s kinda out in the boonies (Suffolk area); if they lost power, they do have a generator, but she might not be able to get on her computer. Ima check on one of the tidewater-area news sites in a bit.

Happy weekend, all.

Up. Internettin’. Gotta go to work in an hour.

Weekend? What’s that?

Off to grocery soon. Ricotta and Yukon Gold potatoes are on the list, may god have mercy on my soul.

I also have to buy some hair color. Any tips before I do so? I have red in my hair and right now it’s a nice mix of red, light brown and gold–and gray.

Ordinarily, I like gray on women, but I’m in maintenance mode. I can no longer afford $150 hair cuts (that included tip). So, here I am. I checked with my stylist and she said I’d be ok with this. I plan on testing a patch first.

It picked Coleur Experte Brioche (why can’t I get away from food today?)

I hope this link works:
mynewhair?

It’s darker than my hair now, but thing is, I want low maintenance. Dying it darker will help with that, so that I can gradually [del]submit to the old age that awaits me as my “beauty” fades, my faculties falter and my strength ebbs, I don’t look like a cougar[/del] age gracefully.

Well, I did manage to sleep until 10 this morning (this means none of the girls woke up earlier – I can sleep until noon given half a chance!)
After that, things got hectic chez Special…

Had lots of debris from having our inner doors (partially, so far…) replaced – had to put that out to the sidewalk (tomorrow is Large Stuff Clearing day.) Then went to the gym. Then went shopping for props for Rosh Hashana dinner – a new tablecloth, napkin holders, stuff like that… and hit the book store while we were at it.

Then cooked dinner or the family.

Then went to the supermarket to get some more stuff for hosting… and had to run home to take delivery on the correct doors to be – finally – installed tomorrow (looooong story… maybe someday I’ll go through it)

Now I’m finally finished for the day…

This morning, we had the first rain of Autumn. It has a name here - HaYoreh, “The Shooter,” because it is always like Father Winter gone postal – a short, yet tremendous, downpour. Rest of the day was, of course, warm and sunny, as it almost always is through September and October.

Come to think of it, doing all the shopping we did today makes me realize how far we’ve come in only about 20 years – from a country that’s Blue Law-ed into effective shutdown on Saturdays, to a place where I can do almost any shopping I need to do. There’s hope after all…

ETA: Setting up mad scramble for “First!” again…?
