Mystery Mafia -- Game Thread

@ peeker #2276: Why should we vote Giraffe? Yes, I am that obtuse. Please lay out your case for me with as much clarity as you can manage and with the fewest words necessary.

@ pwnsall #2287: Welcome back! We’re not claiming investigations, we’re claiming we received messages. There is a potential for a huge difference. For example, I targeted gnarlycharlie, but received a message about Silver Jan. gnarly reported he was informed that he had been protected; I seem to recall somebody else saying gnarly had been targeted. What I conclude from this is that I do not have investigation powers, I received information (potentially false) from someone else, and that I might have a protective power.

@ TexCat #2284: Good point, Inner insisting that we lynch one of the people involved in the circle o’ messages. I think we need additional information about all the messages before we truly attack the whole pile of message recipients and message subjects.

I doubt there are 5 or more people whose only function is to send fake messages to other players. Some of the results are probably correct and we can talk and argue and postulate for the next 4 Days and never actually know or we can lynch someone and find out now.

How kosher is it for me to talk about mechanics from the other game he got this idea from?

scuba ben

so you just got messages saying whoever was villager/wolf or mason results

did you believe your message, and you do still believe it now?

I am picking up cases as things start to make sense to me. It’s why I do better in the action, like this, than I do re-reading. Taking several pages in a chunk is information overload for me and I can’t do anything with it. Something like this, I can talk to you while things are fresh and tease stuff out.

You are being strangely combative, but maybe that’s just the new you?

I knew it was a mistake to go to bed…geez-us all the posts…

Okay, I’m not yet to the end of the thread, but I’m going to reply, so far, to what I have before I forget my current thoughts of them.

Here’s a new thought: How do you know the poisoner is even TOWN? To me “poisoner” sounds like a very negative, shady sort of role. Maybe it’s a scum or third party role.

As has already been said, I don’t think anyone is arguing that people aren’t telling the truth about the messages they got, I think it’s more of a matter that they are from random cops and we don’t know if they’re to be believed or not.

Kosher. I don’t think Gad would have invited you all to play if he didn’t expect that to happen a little. I don’t know that we can read too much into anything, but if you have ideas you might as well share.

Really, that’s your whole thing? That’s why you’ve been posting that people should vote for me in size 7 fonts for the past two Days? That’s why you’ve said again and again that you know for 100% certain I am scum? Wow.

Let me remind you that Day one was only 24 real hours long. There wasn’t time to wait until the perfect moment to cast the most nuanced vote – I just went ahead and voted for someone who pinged me initially (Dancecat), in large part due to supporting info that turned out to be incorrect. Big fucking deal. Votes aren’t engraved in stone, people cast early votes that they take back all the time. Yet you come along and pounce on that like it means something – that itself felt scummy to me. So farkin’ what? Are you going to spend the rest of the game butthurt that you got a vote on Day one?

Or are you scum trying to deflect attention from the bandwagon your buddies created to pull your ass from the fire? Everyone, please go back and look at lilflower’s Day one voting timeline, which I quote in post #1760. peeker was neck in neck with TexCat and SilverJan before the Krayz bandwagon broke away – of the three, he’s the most likely wolf at this point.

I’m not trying to fixate on peeker, but if you look at that voting (including wolf Mahaloth’s third vote on Krayz), it certainly looks like there’s some information in there we don’t want to ignore.

Vote count, pretty pretty please?

I don’t believe that everyone who got a message really got one. I have no reason to explicitly believe anyone at this point.

Look at what is happening now: more than one player is advocating not lynching anyone who got a message, so any scum who is lying just got a free pass for toDay.

ETA: This @ Inner – got interrupted halfway through and forgot the pace of posting.

I’m arguing that:

– masons vouching for each other with no “outs” are almost always town. That’s the case here: TexCat and gnarly are vouching for each other’s innocence, no ifs ands or buts. Unless Gadarene lied to Texcat, gnarly is town.
– Silver Jan has little motive, if scum, to try for a provably fake investigation result, even if she knows ahead of time there might be enough confusion out there to let her wiggle out of it for a while. Heck even if the message is real (but wrong), she has little motive as scum to report it. And Scuba Ben has a message saying she’s town, which under the circumstances I hardly know if that’s worth the toilet tissue it was probably written on, but still.

Of the three, Silver Jan is the one I could still buy as mafia (certainly as third party), yet you voted for gnarlycharlie. Explain where your logic differs from mine. It’s not just a matter of throwing darts.

If this is a vote, it needs to be in blue.

Agree with this entirely. We cannot lynch anyone involved in the messages. Can. Not.

We’ll have an entire nights worth of new information tomorrow and can piece together these messages. If the same people are getting messages, we can assume they are mystic seers and take the claims at pretty much face value. If it’s different people receiving messages tomorrow, then we can start believing it’s just messages being passed around and those are much more likely to be false than mystic seers.

I will say that our board HAS had w/v masons where the villager thinks they are both villager masons.

MODERATOR NOTE

Just don’t quote any role PMs from the other game, and you should be fine. If you’re concerned that something might be borderline, PM me with it and I’ll let you know if it’s okay to post.

not so much specifically, anyone can read that, I remember most of the roles

but i helped mod and you probably can’t imagine how random night actions were and tough to process

it would be like, a randomizer redirects a redirector to a cop who investigates himself (i don’t remember is these roles were involved, just an example), but someone else has a power where they actually get that cops investigation so they find out that guy is a cop

I am going to go out on a limb and say that MHaye would not have let Gad put that into this game because he knows that the rest of us would have run him off the board for doing so.

Coming as soon as I have some lunch (so ~10 minutes).

not a vote just me talking to scuba ben

fairly certain i won’t vote him, but i wanted to hear some of his thoughts and get a little chat going with someone

oops xpost, seems fine tho

night is soon or something right?

Ah, Jesus… I give up, every time I check I have another vote on me and they’re all ridiculous. Screw it, it’s not worth catching up if I’m just gonna get wagoned, I’ve just wasted the morning trying to read and catch up only to get lynched for stupid reasons.
sachetorte made his vote against me for misunderstanding my night post, then got subbed out. Worthless vote.
Septimus makes a lazy vote on me, keeps insisting it isn’t, but won’t say why it isn’t.
NAF just quotes some of my posts, out of context, and says they’re scummy, and only after promising it… weak delivery
dancecat with a self-defense vote
Normal Phase jumping on NAF’s reasons
and episkey to break up the reads, which is just silly

So, of all of these, only one of them is actually on stuff I did in game, and it was taken out of context. I guarantee you there’s scum on this wagon, and they probably want to lend credence to the reads when I come up town because the rest of the mess has scum finger prints on it.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if they want to save Scuba_Ben because what he said about his power boost is true, and lynching the guy that took the time to make the case against him, especially in light of all these reads will probably help him slip back out of suspicion until it’s all sorted out.

And for the sake of contributing what little I can, I targeted Giraffe last night, which I think is why he got the read of me, so whichever cop targeted me, that’s probably how your power works. Also, I have no idea what my power does, I didn’t get any response.

I probably won’t bother to check in again until Dusk, since there doesn’t seem to be a point.

Yeah I think I only saw that role once, but it did come from a pretty big game over there. As I said earlier I dont think we contemplate it now, I’m just putting it out there for everyone to think about way down the line as a possibility.
