A couple thoughts:
Perhaps we really do have 5 Town Investigators, but their results are sent randomly to other players.
Perhaps one or more of our Investigators receives ‘bad information’, so that their results are always false.

Caught up. There are certainly a lot of messages floating around. And I know for a fact that Silver Jan’s is incorrect. That said, I don’t know whether Silver Jan actually received it or not. She actually seems fairly believable to me. I also know that Weedy is claiming a message that is true, but have no idea whether she actually got it or not. Since she is the only one who received a role, I’m looking askance at it, even though it is correct.
ScubaBen claims he got a message that SilverJan is town. I’m not sure where that fits in.
I think we definitely have some sort of re-direction going on with people getting messages about non-targets.
What is the possibility of a insane cops at loose in the village?
Idle, all I can tell you is that the mod gave us both our full roles and it said we were both villagers. I assume that this is not a totally gastardly game and that means that we are both villagers.
I looked around everywhere for the term “Insane Cop” before my last post…where were you hiding it, Texcat?
It’s basically a Detective who always receives the wrong result. Pretty bastard role, IMO.
NETA: And the Insane Cop usually doesn’t know they’re insane.
yOU WERE given your full roles in a Mason’s thread infront of eachother?
Or PM’s sent to each of you?
Still, it’s one explanation for what we’re seeing Today. If we start lynching a bunch of Townies, we might need to revisit the idea.
Hmm. I know Gastard has come up before but I don’t know how much we discussed it. For the benefit of those of you who are not regular players here, we call certain games Gastard (A reference to one of the first games of its type where a player claimed a posting restriction that forbade the use of the B key and they called the mods gastards because they couldn’t say bastards. They turned out to be lying but the name stuck.), in it’s simplest form, a gastard game is a game where you cannot trust the moderator to give you true information. If a game is not explicitly labeled as gastard, the hue and cry over false role and alignment reveals makes the angels clutch their ears. People have mentioned the ancestor of this game having a wolf mason so I assume you guys are not as strict about moderator accountability.
Anyway, the only ways I can see to solve this apparent discrepancy is either people who have received messages are purposefully lying about receiving them or the result they got OR Gadarene has determined a method for specifying PMs that are Word of Mod and can be trusted and PMs that are not. My assumption would be that if the PM is not directly associated with your night action, you cannot trust it to be true. It could be a false message or a garbled message.
They would have to be unaware of the fact, or else it would effectively be a standard Cop role, just with the words ‘Town’ and ‘Scum’ reversed.
I agree, but it’s clear to me that we are definitely getting bad information.
I know that Jan’s message is bad. If she just made it up, then she is scum which means that ScubaBen’s message is bad, and he is scum. I think town receiving bad messages is more reasonable that this whole trail of scum. I don’t think scum would do this. ![]()
What would happen if an insane cop stumbled upon a third party like a surivor? They’d have to be just town or not-town, don’t you think?
I’m sticking with my SilverJan vote because her being scum tracks with my analysis in addition to all the kerfluffle.
Hers is the only one that can be verified as bad (if you and gnarly are to be believed, of course…but since Weedy also got a message specifying you to a Mason, I’m willing to give the benefit of the doubt (now) to your group) so far, though.
If/when we get more that show contradictions, I’ll probably be more willing to believe it’s that people are getting possibly false messages and not that she’s possibly scum.
We were sent separate PMs. Mine definitely showed the full roles of both us. Gnarly showed me his. It showed the full roles for both of us.
This is a good point, and I’ll point out that it’s not always crystal clear which messages are ‘from the Mods’ and which are merely ‘relayed by the Mods’.
We had a game a while back where a Watcher received information regarding who visited a certain player on a particular Night; they took the information to be true because “the Mods wouldn’t lie”, but in fact the info was false because of a redirection. So in this case the player received “false information directly from the Mods”, but this was perfectly acceptable and within the scope of the roles in play.
Mostly out of game, but damn am I glad I was online during all this time. I almost feel sorry for those who are going to have to catch up on all of it.
I forgot to respond to this on my quick attempt to get caught up. Gnarly and I discussed, to some extent, his participation. He is currently in 4 games, which he admitted was probably a mistake. He asked me whether he needed to step it up, and I told him I didn’t think so – he hadn’t made pizza’s lurker list yet. Also he is about 12 hours away. I hope he wakes up soon.
So you have a separate board where you can communicate? By Night only, or by Day as well?
:dubious:
I thought we weren’t allowed to share PMs with each other?
