ATTN: All Duke haters welcome in this thread.
The last of the revelers have just left my house after spending the last three days rooted here watching the ACC tournament. And, HOO-HA!! Maryland wins the ACC tournament in overtime!! First time in twenty years.
Good lord, that tournament kicked ass! Especially if you’re a Maryland fan. To think that less then two weeks ago nobody was sure Maryland would make it to the NCAA Tournament and now they have an automatic bid is incredible. Three come from behind wins in all, and by a six seed no less; not even in my wildest dreams did I think this would happen. The semi-final victory a 21 point down come from behind over NC State, the greatest comeback victory in ACC tournament history!! And the championship a win over Duke (twelve point come back) breaking their streak of ACC titles (and why do I keep hearing Duke fans saying there’s no rivalry between the two teams? Good lord, what do you want, blood?). Being a Maryland fan might cause me to have a heart attack one day and I think Gary Williams has one every game.
Good lord, this conference tournament had everything, possibly the closest games in tournament history, five ranked teams and an off duty cop shooting himself. How’s that for excitement?
Did anyone catch the Georgia Tech fan holding up the sign in the championship game that said “Maryland, don’t let our loss be in vain!” You gotta love it when the fans of the ACC band together in their hatred of Duke. Hey GT, we were rooting for you against Duke yesterday.
To the dipstick at work who wanted Maryland to win so “Duke will have an easier victory in the final”: HAAA, HA HA HAAA. Yeah, I know you weren’t picking up your phone after the game because you were afraid it was me calling to rub it in. BTW, seeing as how you’ve never set foot in North Carolina why are you a Duke fan? Oh, for the same reason you were rooting for the Yankees in the World Series.
To the North Carolina fan who made fun of me when I bet him a hundred bucks early in the season that Maryland would make it to the Sweet Sixteen: Ain’t looking like a stupid bet now, is it (okay, this one might backfire on me)?
As a straight male I would like to say that if John Gilchrist (tourney MVP) ever asked, yes, I would be his bitch.
And, yes, I am petty and obnoxious. But, hey, I am a Maryland fan.
