Name the perfect movie to see with a date on Valentine's Day

I can think of three: Lady and the Tramp, American Graffiti, and Zefferelli’s Romeo and Juliet.

Groundhog Day

Roman Holiday

My Bloody Valentine

Duh.

Coming to America

Never mind. Wrong thread.

I suspect the answer may vary depending upon whether the date is a new romance or a long term partner or spouse!

For me and my wife, it’s The Princess Bride because other than being a fun love story, it’s a near-perfect movie in it’s own right!

Ever After.

This will be an odd one but I’m entering it here because of how I MYSELF reacted to it.

It’s Barry Lyndon. I saw it with my now ex husband. When the scene of the funeral procession for the little boy came up i burst out sobbing and clutched hubbies arm and cried onto his shoulder. He comforted me, and for that and a couple other things I do not hate him. I’m sure he didn’t like the movie.

“Perfect” movie is too much pressure; I can’t answer that.

But if I may throw in a possibly good candidate movie, depending on circumstance: Yesterday is pretty charming and affection-inducing.

More options (with all caveats):

Body Heat
Chocolate

I don’t know if these are perfect, but at least they’re appropriate:

  • Once
  • When Harry Met Sally
  • Beauty and the Beast (1946 version directed by Jean Cocteau)
  • An Affair to Remember

You suggest ‘anything by Richard Curtis’.

If they respond with ‘why don’t we binge Blackadder?’ then you start shopping for a ring.

Saving Private Ryan

Okay so maybe it’s not very romantic (although it will bring tears to a man’s eyes), but it was the movie of our first date, a night that changed our lives, and we’ve been married now 22+ years. It worked for us, so why not?

She’s \color{red}{\text {my Valentine}} each and every day.

Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain.

Groundhog Day

Stranger Than Fiction.

Better known to USAians as Amélie. I concur, excellent date movie.

I’m hoping it’s this one! (Well, it’s a program of several short animated films) as we’ve got tickets for it tonight!

The Graduate

You’ve got to love the ending, where Ben has that great scene banging on the humungus window, then they run off, catch a bus, and then… what? They’re both sitting there like “What’s next?”

On a slightly more serious note-

My beloved and I were going to see The Rocky Horror Picture Show in a theater tonight. We had this planned for a long time. Then, the Eagles victory parade was scheduled for tonight. The streets will be crowded and some will be closed. Public transit will be packed, running on a special schedule, and skipping many stops. Finally, it is colder than expected. She has said it is too cold to wear anything other than normal clothing and she really wanted to wear a costume when we went.

Bah.
