Name your poison

This is a thread I like to resurrect from time to time just to see what kind of alcoholic beverages people are imbibing. I’ve been off this board (and offline entirely, in fact) for almost a year, and so I think the time has come. Name your poison…

I’m still sticking with my tried and true favorite, Janis Joplin’s spirit of choice, Southern Comfort. By the shot, straight no chaser. But of course man cannot live by whiskey alone. So I’ve also been dabbling in various rums, including Bacardi, Capt. Morgan’s and Parrot Bay. And my buddy James has been letting me sample his ever changing roster of single malt scotches. Pretty good stuff, if I do say so myself.

On the beer front, I’m still sticking with the cheap American domestic swill, such as Budweiser, Rolling Rock, and of course Milwaukee’s Best Ice, or Icebeast, as I call it. What can I say; I’ve got lowbrow taste. But I like it.

My usual is good old Jack No. 7(straight, never as a shot, three ice cubes.) My preferred drink is Jack Daniel’s Single barrel. I’d love to get a full barrel, but $8400 is a little too much to justify to my wife.
On the beer side, I like trying new brews, but Bud Ice is always my back-up. If I’m just looking for a buzz, nothing works better then Steel Reserve.

Peace-DESK

Cognac, Martell’s
Vodka, Absolute Kurrant, straight from the freezer
Malomel (fruit mead), homemade

Manhattans made with WIld Turkey 101 proof Martini Rosso and Angustura Bitters.

Cosmo made with Absolut Vodka, Couantrau, and Pure Cranberry Juice.

Blue Monday Nightcap with Absolut Vodka, Couantrau, and Blue Bolls

Straight Talisker Whiskey

Japanese Imported Sake, hot.

Beer.

Tangueray and tonic, with lime of course. I’ve been drinking this since I was 14.

Saporo Beer isn’t bad, neither is Yuengling (did I spell that right?) but my new beer is called Sparks. It’s pretty exciting and tastes like carbonated yellow Gatorade, with a kick.

beer - Either McEwen’s india pale ale or Skullsplitter ale

for real drinkin’ I prefer Old Bushmills over the rocks, or Verbena Iced Teas (20 oz Southern Comfort 3 ice cubes)

Gosling’s Black Seal Bermuda Black Rum Dark Rum

Lagavulin 16 Single Malt

McAllen 12 Single Malt

Appleton Estate Extra Dark Rum

Old Rip Van Winkle 10 year Bourbon

Tanquary #10 Gin

Flying Dog Doggy Style – Amber Ale

Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Talisker, Highland Park for single malts
Homebrew for beer
Mead (assuming it works out! :))

Bailey’s irish Cream.

Jagermeister for when I want to horrify onlookers, vodka and powerade for a cheap and cheerful buzz, and Heinekan for clubbing.

Tortuga Coffee Rum Cream

Bloody Mary and Strawberry Pina Colada. But not together. :stuck_out_tongue:

Rum runners and Guinness (not together)

Knob Creek bourbon & a bit of Vernor’s ginger ale over ice.

For cheap bourbon, it’s Old Crow.

Beefeater Gin & tonic, piece of lime.

For cheaper gin, Seagram’s.

Malibu coconut rum over ice.

Favorite dark beers, Sierra Nevada Porter and Redhook Blackhook.

Sam Adams Boston Lager.

My basic cheaper beer is Miller High Life.

Occasional forays into Killian’s Red, Leinenkugel Red, Dos Equis Dark, Budweiser, and whetever the brewpub makes onsite.

Cosmopolitans are always nice, though I’ll sometimes go with the more streamlined Absolut & cranberry.

Otherwise, I’m partial to:

Bailey’s Irish Cream, either straight, on ice, or half & half with Jameson’s in a shot glass…

Shots of Goldschlager…

This ice cream & alcohol drink called a Frozen Embryo that I get at Korova Milk Bar in the East Village…

and, sometimes, an Absolut Raspberry & 7-Up combo. Very tasty.

Scotch, rocks. Given a choice I’ll order Chivas.
When it comes to beers I wander, esp. depending on where I am and what they’ve got on draught. Lately I’ve been drinking a lot of the lighter lagers like Bass and Harps. Drinking at home is almost always cheap American, Coors Light and MGD being astronomically more common than all other labels.

Maker’s Mark straight on ice.

Sierra Nevada for beer.

Margaritas for a mixed drink, preferably with something other than Cuervo but I’m not really much of a Tequila afficianado. In any case, you’re mixing it so does it really matter?

Call me a California Cab.

A good red wine

or

Absolut Citron & tonic with a lemon twist.
