Nashvegas Dope '02 Anyone?

I’m out of town the weekend of the 31st.

Okay, then how about the weekend of the 24th? Is that good for everyone or not?

But I may be able to stay just one night. I’m training for a century bike ride, and I’m kinda obsessin’ over it. If I don’t ride at least three days a week, I get cranky.

So count me in if it’s that weekend. If not, then maybe some other time. Please e-mail particulars/directions etc.

Thanks

Quasi

I can make most any day this month. It would be my first dopefest ever!

Okay, we’ve got a couple of takers for the 24th, can we get a definite count on who can make it then? Also, we still need a place to meet. So far, the nominations are:
diku’s place
Hooters
The New Main Library

I’ll also throw out Cafe Coco.

Anyone else got any ideas or have any objections to those places?

Since I’m unfamiliar with N’ville, it would be great if the location y’all choose could be near a decent-priced hotel, so I wouldn’t have to drive if I have a couple of beers with y’all, but I won’t make it a stipulation.

Thanks

Quasi

24th is good, we could do Cafe Coco, or Bongo Java at Belmont. No beer there though. How about Sam’s Place in Hillsboro? Yeah, my place is still available.

I still don’t know if I can make it. But for now, I’m planning on being there.

I often get called into work on short notice. I will be there, wherever it is, if I am not working.

I’m kind of hoping that this whole thing happens in or near Gallatin, which has taken on a surreal nature in my mind given some of the posts about happenings in the area. 24th is plausible for me, if I don’t get too much grief from my family over doing Doper sort of stuff the week before that. Just make sure there are decent directions and a phone number or two for people who get easily lost.

No November dates possible for me. But, anything else flys with me.

Gallatin’s not that great. I mean, it’s not bad, but it’s a suburb, in a strange kind of way. It’s a small town suburb of a city that’s trying to become more. But I’m sure there’s stuff to do there.

Anyway, is the 24th a settled thing? If so, I could be a possible, but I can’t be a definite until the time is much closer.

Gallatin is too far away to be a suburb of Nashville. It’s not even in the same county.
As far as things to do in Gallatin, if it doesn’t involve water, church or buying a used car, you’re out of luck.
Just about every restaurant chain is represented here though.

During my time in Nashvegas, I considered Gallatin a suburb - I had to go out there for work a lot from the Madison/Goodlettsville area, and after my recent couple of years in Atlanta, I know that places a lot further out than Gallatin can be suburbs (one of these days Atlanta’s going to take over Chattanooga…). Heck, I think of Lebanon as a suburb of Nashville, but again, maybe I’m taking Atlanta standards there.

But I moved away…four years ago, and I could definitely have lost track of the Nashville dynamics in that time.

cringe And that’d be my first double post. At least that I can remember.

Heck, many of our suburbs are in Kentucky, which is not even the same state. Ditto, but to a lesser extent, Indiana. Many other suburbs are in outlying counties. So I’m used to that. And I was only half-heartedly nominating Gallatin; just wanted a peek at Tuckerfan’s mysterious neighbors.

Well, since no one’s posted an objection to the 24th, I hearby declare the 24th to be the date! Now, all we need is a location. ShibbOleth, yer welcome to drop by and see my neighbors anytime, however you’ll probably be disappointed as there’s not really much to see. In fact, hillbilly’s being kind about Gallatin. If it weren’t so dull, then nobody’d notice my alien neighbor (one of them’s moved out BTW), and hillbilly’s killer squirrels. Not to mention a Dopefest, even a tame one, would probably unnerve the locals. Still, I’ll add it to the list of nominees, which are:
diku’s
Hooters
The New Main Library
Bongo Java
Gallatin (there is a coffe shop in town, never been there, don’t know what it’s like)
Cafe Coco
Okay, I’ll give ya’ll till Tues. the 6th to post any objections or other possible nominees for meeting places. At that point, we’ll have to narrow down our choices and settle on a time. If you’re too embarassed to publicly post your objections, then feel free to e-mail me. Also, I’d like for everyone to e-mail me (since I think that at least one of us has a hidden e-mail addy) so that I can e-mail my phone numbers and directions to everyone. Include your phone number(s) if you don’t mind my passing it around to the others (in case two Dopers are trying to call me at the same time saying they’ll be late, they can get through to a human, instead of my voicemail, assuming that’s working).

The 24th sounds good to me. I’d prefer it be in Nashville, though, as I’m NW of the city and Gallatin is waaaay far out for me, being that it’s NE of the city.

Okay, one vote against Gallatin and I’d say that in this case it’s a deal killer since how far Calliope and some of the others gotta drive.

So the nominees now are:
diku’s
Hooters
The New Main Library
Bongo Java
Cafe Coco
and Sam’s Place (which I forgot to include in my earlier list)

I’m also going to add South Street in Nashville, which is a pretty cool place (and I just remembered it).

Personally, I’m open to anything so don’t feel ya gotta pick something I mentioned.
