NCAA Football Chatter

So, I hate USC and all florida teams. Love it when ND wins, but love it more when they lose big. I follow the Big XII, mostly because of having gone to Colorado and now living in the Sooner state. I miss the SWC.

Looks like this year may be the SEC’s year. I don’t think Ohio State can keep it up. I predict that, at the end of the season, none of the BCS top 10 will be undefeated. Could Auburn win the Big Game this season?

And I also predict that USC will be sanctioned because of the Reggie Bush payments.

All of these things I actually see as good for NCAA football. I don’t like the BCS system. It’s not much better, imho, that the system it replaced. Anything that weakens the BCS is a good thing in my eyes.

I love the high rank early season matchups. Makes for good fan interest, and opens up the bowl race field. The OT system seems to be working well. But, just like the pros, we need reform in officiating (I’ve said this for several years now)

So, how do you feel about NCAA football this year? Talk up your team, your ideas, etc… No trash talk, please, as that leads to the Pit.

Colorado is really, really bad this year. They don’t have a quarterback that can throw, so teams stack the line and shut down the run.

When your most exciting player is your kicker, you’ve got problems.

:frowning:

:stuck_out_tongue: At least someone posted!

Yeah, The Buffs continue to be a disappointment. Oh well.

Tell me about your teams, your ideas, your outlook for this sason’s big news, etc…

I remain ever hopeful that my beloved Crimson Tide will have a good year, but I have to face the facts: this is another rebuilding year after the NCAA sanctions. We have a freshman quarterback, who, while definitely young, is already pretty rock-solid. By the time he’s a junior or senior, if he stays injury-free, he may be a real force to be reckoned with. The O-line looks better than it did last year, with the addition of 350-lb. Andre Smith, but could be better. The defense, as always, is a nightmare for the other offense. Not great on the line, but lights-out in the secondary.

But the SEC is strong this year. Auburn is going to pound on us, and that game immediately follows LSU, who is also going to pound on us. Did you SEE the LSU-Auburn game? Man, what a trench war. I’m surprised nobody died.

Michigan and Michigan State won. That makes me happy in the pants. Ohio State won, but that’s tertiary. Life is relatively good in the Big Ten.

I wonder how strong the Big Ten is going to be at the end of the year. Only 4 teams making it to bowl games? Maybe 5? Hm. The plot thickens…

Well, Texas cleared out the cobwebs by throttling the Rice “barely Division 1” Owls. So life is good here.

The Big XII is looking crappy. Texas didn’t show up vs. Ohio State, Oklahoma got jobbed but nonetheless should have looked better vs. a middle-of-the-road Pac-10 team. Kansas gets beat by Toledo - yes, that’s right, Toledo - Colorado continues to embarrass itself, Iowa State gets smacked by Iowa, Texas Tech’s airshow is grounded by TCU, and Fake Army (a&m) barely escapes with the W against Real Army. Hell, Baylor might have had the most spirited performance outside of Texas - they only lost by 2.

The BCS means that you start to care about stuff like this. The Longhorns had better win out and hope that Ohio State runs the table to have a shot at a high-tier BCS bowl, let alone the Fiesta Bowl.

On the other hand, it was nice to see Notre Dame and Miami get smacked. SEC looks like it could be the power conference this year, but similar to the other power conference Big 11 they’ll end up beating each other up. West Virginia has probably the sweetest path to the BCS, and Louisville picked up a nice win as well. I think we’re going to see some newcomers crash the BCS party, which might be interesting…
