NCIS plotline: Jenny Shepard's father? (open spoilers, duh)

I only watch NCIS in reruns, and while I think I’ve got a good handle on most of the major plot lines up through the season 7 premiere (getting Ziva back from wherever). However, there’s one item that I don’t remember the resolution of:

As part of her campaign to bring down the Frog (sorry, I can’t bring myself to go look up how to spell it in French), Jenny goes to France and that sleazy CIA dude (ditto looking up his name) puts her in touch with an old guy who used to work with her father. Old guy is dying and tells her that her father was alive as recently as a few days or weeks prior. This shakes Jenny, because as far as she has known, her father had been dead for years and years.

How is this resolved? Is it all just a smoke screen put up by the Frog, or is the sleazy CIA dude involved in it, or what? Did they just drop it all when they decided to off her?

As far as the show goes - it was all a set up - and a good one at that - as they also had the bottle/glass with Gen. Sheppards fingerprints. I’m not sure to what end they wanted to take it - it seemed to me that the stronger part of the story line wasn’t that he might be alive, but wether or not he was selling secrets - and they pretty much left that to a “he said, she said” unresolved line as well.

I’m left wondering if they had intended to take it further, but decided to drop it all together with the departure of Dir. Sheppard.
