Need help with my dog's bad behavior

No no, I know all that, I also would guess uncastrated human males are more likely to commit violent crimes. This should have little to no bearing on the ethics of performing major life-changing surgery on someone without a valid medical reason nor ability to get consent.

Personally I’m against that as well. I can understand something like a vasectomy, and even that is a gray area, but I am dead-set against castration of male dogs without a valid medical reason. …>>
Doesn’t reduction in prostrate cancer alone constitute a “valid medical reason”? Not to mention a great reduction in the chance the dog will have to be euthanized or given up later for behavioral problems.

All those apply to humans as well in one way or another, but I’m unsubscribing from this thread before I get banned. Sorry if I’ve offended anybody.

GWVet, while catching up on this post I noticed something I hadn’t realized earlier.

You have a child? And your wife is so uncaring about another child getting bitten? What is she going to do if your daughter scares the dog and gets bitten? Have you asked her that?

I am really sorry this seems to be coming down to a power issue between you and the Mrs., but that seems to be the case. I hope a solution can be found that doesn’t involve divorce, but if it does make sure she doesn’t get your daughter and the dog.

groman, why are you so against neutering dogs? Are you against spaying females as well? Do you enjoy watching puppies being euthanized? Or seeing the results of dogs fighting over in-heat females? Or females trying to bear puppies sired by a dog much bigger than she is? Grow up and quit thinking with your testicles.

MOving this to IMHO.

GWvet - You say it’s not a his dog/her dog thing, but you’re expecting your wife to make the call to the vet. Why don’t you set up the appointment, and you can both go and talk to the vet. You might call the vet beforehand and let him know what’s going on. If your wife takes Queenie in by herself, I can almost guarantee that she will down-play the incidents.

I’m an animal lover. I have three rescued dogs and three rescued cats. I’ve had a dog with separation anxiety cause thousands of dollars of damage to my house, and I didn’t euthanize him. I had a dog kill one of my cats, and I didn’t euthanize her. But I won’t have a dog I can’t trust around people. Animals are unpredictable by their nature. Unfortunately, your dog is all too predictable - she’s aggressive. And if you can’t end the aggression, you know sooner or later she’s going to bite again.

If you buy 2 10X10X6 kennels, you can put them up against your house with the back door opening out into them. That would give the dogs a 20X40 run, and you’d have two gates to exit out to the rest of the yard. That would be more cost-effective than fencing the whole yard, and could be done immediately. If you want to put up the fence later, you can, but your problem would be solved until then.

Good luck with your problem. I know it would tear my heart out.
