Neep help finding a pattern: Do you crochet?

I have been looking for a type of pattern that I’m not sure exists. I’d like to do a baby sized karate gi top.

I can find hundreds of baby patterns for every other kind of clothing, but not a gi.

I’ve used various search terms, in several combos, such as “baby”. “karate”, “gi”, “pattern”, “crochet”, and so on. I’ve seen karate related patterns for cross-stitch, but not for clothing.

And crocheting Dopers have anything like this? Some friends at the dojo I attend will be welcoming a child in a few months, and I’d like to do up a unique baby gift.

A gi is made of a jacket with a crossover kimono closure together with a straight leg pair of pants.

Just make it a little longer, and it white, and it will look exactly like a gi jacket.

Any straight legged pants would work. Here’s a free download I found on Ravelry (you may need to be a member to view & download, depends on the settings I think):

If you’re not on Rav, the pattern search is truly remarkable.

Hello Again, thank you so much! That first pattern is perfect. I’d just figured on doing the top, not pants, so that will be exactly what I need.

Maybe I can do a belt in black, to show the rank the little critter will be aspiring to.

I never thought about using “kimono” as a search term. God, I love the Dope!

Hello Again, you are great!

My pleasure & congrats to your friend. I’m sure they will love it. Once you add a belt it will look extra gi-ish. Osu!
