The DVD section of Netflix used to have a New Releases page that you could sort by date to see what new movies were coming out a given week to add to your queue. That page seems to be gone now. Anyone know a way to get this information? It isn’t the same as a list of DVD releases because for most disks there’s a delay before Netflix will rent them. Thanks.
Your first link is just the standard list of recent releases. They used to let you sort them by date but no longer (which is what made me ask my question in the first place). The second one doesn’t take me anywhere.
I thought the second link went to the Rent New Releases Movies and TV Shows on DVD and Blu-ray - DVD Netflix page. If you don’t see it, it should be available from the top menu, under Browse.

For some reason your link didn’t work but your directions did and thank you, that coming soon page was exactly what I was looking for.
I actually called Netflix customer service just the other day about this (well, similar - my “New Releases” page still exists, but hasn’t been updated since October).
The woman was actually very talkative and told me a number of things that she said I shouldn’t tell anyone, as if they were insider secrets. None of these things was particularly shocking or even made Netflix look bad at all, but I will honor her wishes here.
However, I will say that you can go to the “Coming Soon” section (just a couple of links under “New Releases”) and add movies there, a week or more ahead of time. For people like me who used to frequently check “New Releases” this works just as well. Of course you can also use their search feature if there’s a particular movie that came out recently that you missed.
I will also say, in a general way apropos of nothing, that often times companies will try out different layouts or potential new policies in different regions to gauge reaction. Sometimes they do this in an attempt to see if something pleases their customers more, and sometimes they do it to see if a different process improves efficiency or other back-end things like that. The results of these “tests” will determine whether a process gets rolled out company-wide or dropped entirely.
I don’t know if this is what they told you but I have read they made a decision to make it harder to find the newest releases by design to limit the run of demand they get right away.
I was also using that newest releases page until one day they actually removed a few weeks off it and the, as you said, left it only updated from October. The coming soon page I was pointed to above is great and I had no idea it was there. In fact it a way it is better than what I used since it goes into the future.
I’ve done that for years. I’ll also add movies to my queue that are still in theaters or even ones that I’ve just heard of but aren’t in the dvd.netflix.com. The movies will remain in the Unknown release date section for a while, and eventually say something like December release (or whatever the next month is), and then move up to the top section when the release date is within a month.
I know you were looking for DVDs, but I did want to mention that www.instantwatcher.com is a great resource for their streaming colleciton. It also works for Amazon Prime video. Here is their page for what is expiring and what is upcoming on streaming.
