Santa Clarita Diet premiered on Netflix today. I’ve really been looking forward to this for awhile and just started episode. The ads promoting the “diet” are downright hysterical.
Well the “horror-comedy” description is enough to tell me that this is not the show for me, but I have to admit that the episode titles are a thing of beauty.“So Then a Bat or a Monkey”
“We Can’t Kill People!”
“We Can Kill People”
“The Farting Sex Tourist”
“Man Eat Man”
“Attention to Detail”
“Strange or Just Inconsiderate?”
“How Much Vomit?”
“The Book!”
“Baka, Bile and Baseball Bats”
Well I’ve never been watched 5 episodes of anything on Netflix in a row before. I’m definitely finishing this over the weekend.
Technically they did succeed in killing him like Dan asked ;).
Seen two episodes. Pretty funny thus far.
I watched all the episodes today. It was pretty cute. Easy to watch. Fun guest stars.
I just feel like they could do better but I had just finished (and fallen in love with) the first two seasons of Schitt’s Creek so maybe that’s part of it.
We just flew through like four or five tonight. I had a hard time figuring out what “type” of comedy it was at first. Dark, I know, but the writing didn’t seem consistent at first. It got better a couple eps in.
We just watched the first four episodes. I hadn’t heard anything about it except that it’s funny. OMG. I haven’t laughed that hard in awhile. I did not see any of that coming.
I just finished episode ten. I really hope this get’s a 2nd season, that was a nice cliffhanger.
I like how they’re playing with how being undead works. Sheila has more in common with pop culture vampires than zombies, but it turns out she’s been slowly decaying all along. So the cure isn’t so much a cure as a maintenance drug, & Joel’s on a 5150 hold.
Is Timothy Olyphant funny in this?
Yes.

He steals the show, imo.
Great. I knew he had comedic chops! Must catch the pilot tonight.
Timothy Olyphant is great. The teenage daughter is great.
Drew Barrymore sometimes misses on her punchline delivery, but makes up for it when she blurts out profanity.
I binged it all this weekend and liked it.
We watched it Saturday and My Beloved, who doesn’t like gore and/or horror, enjoyed the whole season.
I’m 4 episodes in and love it. The comedy mixed with near comedically graphic violence is just a great combination. And the daughter makes the show… her teenagerness is perfect.
“YOU are!”
Timothy Olyphant was hilarious as the “traumatized guy who’s just barely holding it together” type.
Also, this part early in the show cracked me up:
(They are in the desert, covered in blood, burying a dismembered body, when suddenly a car pulls up and blinds them with headlights)
Joel: Okay, we say we came across this murder site and we’re just cleaning it up.
Sheila: Who cleans up murder sites?
Joel: I don’t know, Mormons?
Sheila: Mormons don’t clean up murder sites.
Joel: Mormons are helpful!
I binge watched the whole season last night and LOVED it! Can’t wait for the next season!
As impulsive as the daughter was, at first I thought she was infected too, and maybe the reason her mother got that way.
I agree that Timothy O. is great in this. I have a feeling that his character is this close to turning to the camera and winking at us. Like he wants to say, “Yeah, this whole thing is totally FUBAR, but what are you gonna do?”
I loved his line when the cop neighbor asks him about the “ant spray” he was using in the middle of the night–“I don’t know…Ants away? Ants be gone? Fuck you, ants?”
