nurses have shaving down. fast and effective.
For me, there was very little pain and discomfort. I read a magazine during the precedure, took it easy for a day, and enjoyed the pain meds. There is no detectable difference in orgasm or ejaculation, but I will say one thing: my sex life improved appreciably when I no longer had to worry about my paratroopers getting loose.
Congratulations to all of you who have had the procedure for being responsible. ![]()
Relax.
I had mine in 1972. I remember it being quite unpleasant and uncomfortable for several long moments, but never very painful. I was sore for a day or two after, but nothing severe. Our sex life was back to normal within the week. And from everyone I’ve ever talked to about it, I gather that my experience was worse than most.
They’ll tell you to go home and lie down for the whole weekend. I followed the advise, and everything was fine. A friend didn’t, and all was…not good.
I never felt any difference whatever. IIRC, the amount of semen ejaculated is reduced by less than 5%.
.
I had mine done by a proper urologist, and the above matches my experience in every way.
My friend, on the other hand, had his done at a cheap ‘clinic’ of some sort, and had a ball the size of a coconut for two weeks. Yes, a ball, the other was more or less fine. Dude had to sit on a hemorrhoid donut.

I read this thread at work and almost blacked out. Nothing in here is even overly graphic.
Can you tell I will never have this done?
I know I am a chick and therefore not really invited to this thread but…
…my husband is having this done in a few months. He is keen on the results but not the procedure itself. So, he’s not asking a lot of questions about what will happen.
I wanted to know about the comments upthread about tighty-whities. Hubby wears only boxers. Should I go get him some breifs so he is more comfortable during his recovery.
I am already planning on taking care of him and being super sympathetic.
I would say yes.
My doc recommended wearing a jock strap for a few days. It’s definitely not a bad idea to keep the boys from bouncing around as much as possible.
You know, after the swelling has gone down and the pain has eased, you *can *help him achieve the “shooting blanks” stage a little faster. Frequent ejaculation to clean out the ol’ pipes, if you know what I’m sayin’. A gal’s gotta do what a gal’s gotta do…
jock is best
i recall being advised not to have an orgasm for a week so as to not risk healing and sealing of the tube ends and suture site [i recall the ends were just tied for mine] . that is the longest i’ve ever gone and it was an ordeal.
I once went 14 years without ejaculating.
yes except for then and not for the lack of trying.
So.
My urologist said my vasectomy was one of the hardest he had ever done. Because one of my gentlemen were in the wrong location at birth, it had to be moved, which led to formation of scar tissue and just a weird anatomical situation. He severed what he thought was the vas but was unable to pull it out to make sure. The left one went without a hitch, it took like 15 minutes, but he was working on the right for about an hour. So there’s a possibility that it might not even take. Not blaming the urologist, just a fluke of anatomy, I guess.
Not too sore, more general discomfort than anything. Feels like they were squeezed a bit too much. I’m taking half Vicodins every 4 hours and icing on and off every 15 minutes. Not too bad so far.
I hope it was done right, not really looking forward to having the more involved surgery done to get it right the second time.
I had a vasectomy last summer. The pain of the surgery was brief. It was enough to make me since from the pinching of the needle, but virtually nothing after that. I was prescribed Vicodin for the weekend and wasn’t afraid to use it as well as the frozen peas. The first few days weren’t too bad.
I ran into complications after about a week. The incision became infected, which was painful and caused swelling on the left side. The urologist gave me some antibiotics, but they didn’t quite do the trick. The infection appeared to reside, but a week later it moved to the epididymus on the left side, so there was more chronic low level pain. The epididymus infection wasn’t nearly as painful as the scrotal infection. (There are two words that should never appear together.) Another round of antibiotics was prescribed.
Finally, now there is a slight tingle throughout my scrotum during orgasm that wasn’t there before the operation. It’s not painful or pleasureful; it’s just there. It doesn’t interfere with the enjoyment of sex, but there is the possibility that things change a little.
I’m glad I did it, but vasectomies aren’t all smooth sailing, back at work after the weekend operations.
best to give the boys the week off. stay off the trampoline. see they are clean and healing.
I experienced minor discomfort the day of the procedure. The following day, all was well.
