Who else is looking forward to this? (European release date October 20th) - I know I am. I already ordered it!
I just hope the storyline will be less predictable than the first game. I still liked it, but duh… One could see the plot development from a mile away.
While I didn’t particularly like Neverwinter Nights 1 (I’m just not really a Bioware fan), I absiolutely adore the late, lamented Black Isle. And Obsidian pretty much is Black Isle. And with this game, I think they had a more generous development schedule than with KotOR2.
Looking forward to it very, very much. For the built-in campaigns, for the user-made stuff that will be out there, for the reported boost to caster balance, and just generally for a good single player PC RPG experience that I haven’t had since, well, NWN1.
I picked out the computer components I’m getting to upgrade my machine. Picked out a sweet Radeon card. I’ll be able to upgrade in about two or three weeks, and I should have the computer for that game just in time for its release.
I’m excited. I’ve had the opportunity to play the Baldur’s Gate series and (currently) Planescape: Torment in the meantime though. NWN1 really did shine brightest in the expansion packs I think, so NWN2 seems really promising.
It’s on my list of “Will sell kidney if not enough ready cash” games. I’ll echo Kiros in that the fan-made stuff, if it keeps to the same quality as the NWN add-ons, will be excellent.
I loved NWN1 and I was really looking forward to NWN2. But, last I heard, it was for Windows XP only.
I refused to buy XP on principle due to the “We make it phone home every time you swap out a component” business model, and I’m not about to compromise my principles for a game. (Though I’ve been tempted once or twice for this one!)
I’m hopeful that it will run on Win2K with few or no hacks. It would be even better if it runs under Cedega or Wine. (I’m really hoping Atari crumbles on the whole DirectX only thing & authorizes a Linux port, but that’s just a dream.)
Oh, I’m looking forward to it. Maybe I’ll go put in a preorder at GameStop at lunch today. I played the hell out of the original NWN- heck, it’s still installed on my home computer.
While I don’t much care for the ruleset, I love the way they handle combat- I’d love to see an MMORPG that has as many parries, blocks and dodges as NWN does. Most games have you and the bad guy standing facing each other and “tradin’ licks”, but not NWN.
I know, but I hate it when companies start with the assumption that their customers are criminals. It’s the same principle which prevents me from flying; or stopping when the stores ‘automagic thief detector’ is set off by my car keys (or whatever).
And I’m an open-source kind of guy anyway.
So, <shakes tiny fist> take that Microsoft and Atari!
Last I heard several guys were able to get the toolset running on their win2k machines. That doesn’t mean the game will run, but it’s a step in the right direction. I’d suggest you wait until release and lurk the forum boards, if people get it to run, you bet it’ll be announced there.
I loved NWN 1. In fact I followed it’s development a good 2 years before it’s release. Enjoyed the game for another 3 years after release thanks to the expansion packs, player created modules, persistent worlds, and neverwinter connections.
I didn’t follow NWN 2’s development much until a few months ago and ever since I’ve been eagerly awaiting this sequel. It looks very promising, specially the toolset. I’ve already managed to start making my own version of the Haunted Halls of Eveningstar. Slow going, but fun.
I haven’t been following the development too strictly simply because I don’t want a lot of spoilers, but does anyone know what the multiplayer will be like (or knows of a preview or dev diary that talks about it?) With NWN 1, my husband and I played through the campaign together, and I’m really hoping to be able to do that again.
Yes! I meet the minimum requirements by a strock of luck! Barely meet them (Athlon XP 3200 and a GeForce FX5700,) but damn it, I CAN play the game without having to upgrade!
Now I just need to find $60…
Even if my husband and I exchanged gifts, he’d never be so cruel to me as to make me wait. I keep checking newegg to see if prices have dropped on my computer components. I think by switching to a 250 GB drive instead of 320 GB, I can save about $35. I’m willing to sacrifice a little size, since I haven’t even maxed out my current 110 GB.
