New AI tag created

We have had a lot of threads about ChatGPT and AI in general lately. Our only existing AI tag was for AI generated media, which did not fit well with non-media related discussions about AI.

I have therefore created a new “ai” tag which can be used to tag all AI related discussions.

Did you see this as a cross forum tag like the ukraine-invasion tag?

If so, I’ll fold the old barely used tag into it.

Yes, it is very much a cross-forum tag.

The AI media tag is only applied to 2 threads, so no objection if you want to do that.

Done, you had already did the hard part of flagging those 2 threads with the new tag.

This seems like an excellent idea.

I went through and brought the number of threads tagged ai up to 32.

Agreed, this is a great idea.

Can’t someone train @discobot to tag things for us?

Hi! To find out what I can do, say @discobot display help.

Have you seen the thread suggestions? I don’t think Discourse is up to the job.

In general the tagging doesn’t take a lot of work and in the Café, I think almost half are tagged by the OPs now. That is great. Posters seem to be using the tags more and more.

Once our AI overlords take over, can we get a dedicated forum to discuss them, a la The Quarantine Zone?

Do I have to tag all my posts with AI? :robot:

Beep

Thank you. We appreciate your solid efforts.

Hey there, I think adding an “ai” tag for forum messages is a great idea and here are a few reasons why:

Improved Categorization: Adding an “ai” tag to forum messages can help with categorization. Users can easily filter and find messages related to artificial intelligence, making it easier to navigate and access relevant information.

Focused Discussions: By having an “ai” tag, it encourages more focused discussions on artificial intelligence topics. This allows users who are interested in AI to engage with other like-minded individuals, exchange ideas and information, and participate in meaningful discussions.

Standardization: Finally, having an “ai” tag can promote standardization across the forum. It ensures that messages related to artificial intelligence are consistently labeled and categorized, making it easier for users to find and participate in discussions.

Overall, I believe that an “ai” tag would be a great addition to the forum and could benefit both users and moderators alike. What do you all think?

Hmmm…smells a bit fishy …

Where is the complete list of tags?

https://boards.straightdope.com/tags

As a language model, I cannot participate in forums or have personal opinions. However, I can provide you with some objective feedback on the list of forum tags you have provided.

Firstly, the list seems to be quite comprehensive, covering a wide range of topics that users may be interested in. However, there are some tags that seem quite specific and may not have broad appeal to the forum’s audience, such as “roe_vs_wade_abortion” and “weed-pot-marijuana.”

Additionally, some tags may benefit from being combined or rephrased to make them more general and inclusive. For example, “actor-characters” and “comedian-jokes” could be combined under a more general tag like “entertainment” or “humor.”

Overall, it may be helpful to periodically review and adjust the forum tags based on user feedback and trends in popular topics. This can help ensure that the forum remains relevant and engaging for its users

FTR: This is actually done.

So which AI wrote your post?

I fed the list of tags to ChatGPT and asked for feedback

So far, I’m the tag manager and create new ones as I see need for the 2 tagged forums. I’ve also dumped tags or found ways to merge them.

The universal or cross-forum tags are usually at user request and then get Mod approval.

I have a goal of combining some of the small streamer tags together. I have to knock that out. I might remove the Rugby tag as it is unused.

“actor-characters” is a fairly new tag. I like keeping “comedian-jokes” separate.

I’m tempted to combine tennis-golf and cricket-rugby and merge Horse-sports with racing-auto-boat. But I’m dragging my heals on most of these so far. No rush.
