I stumbled across in this entry the IMDB. A Batman movie, dealing with the R’as Al Ghul storyline, apparently. And… I’m hopeful. I mean, look at the cast.
Holy crap, Christian Bale!
Holy crap, Morgan Freeman!
Holy crap, Michael Caine!
And it’s being directed by…
Holy crap, Christopher Nolan!
I think this could be, finally, a good modern Batman movie. What Batman needs is a director capable of giving the movie a dark, intellectual edge - the comics are a hell of a lot smarter than the movies would indicate - and Christopher Nolan is just the man to do it. I don’t have to tell you why Morgan Freeman is the man. Michael Caine holds a similar position.
As for Christian Bale - you may not know him, but the man is an absolutely brilliant actor. Rent American Psycho sometime. His performance in American Psycho, especially in the “phone call” scene, was delicious. Bale has been in some pretty awful films, but his acting is almost always top notch.
So, I’m hopeful. Please don’t waste this cast and this license, Nolan. Please.
Thought so. I saw that dragon movie with him in (can’t remember it’s name) and he was talking with a sort of cockney accent (if I remember rightly). He reminds me of tom cruise for some reason.
Anyway enough about him. I am glad to hear there is going to be a new batman movie not done by that german director (who’s name escapes me). I’ve never heard of Nolan. What’s he done before?
It’s also got Ken Watanabe (The Last Samurai) as Ra’s Al-Ghul.
There was a thread last week with a picture of the new Batmobile. Looked like a Hum-Vee on steroids. I thought it was cool, but general reaction to it in that thread was mixed.
Ah I see. So it should be good then.
I decided to watch Insomnia for ironic reasons. I had been awake for about 30 hours. I don’t remember much of the film, for that reason, but I remember liking it.
Gary Oldman is in it too, playing a younger Lt. (not Commissioner) James Gordon!
Also, Liam Neeson is playing Bruce Wayne’s mentor, Henri Ducard.
Ken Watanabe was so fantastic in The Last Samurai, I think he is an inspired choice for Ra’s Al Ghul.
Finally, any Christian Bale doubters should rent a double-feature of American Psycho and Equilibrium, a recent sci-fi movie that combines elements of 1984, Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451, and The Matrix.
