I’m getting a little confused by all the high-falutin intellectual-speak going on around here, but I wanted to pop in and say that the Diplomacy rules finally are available online, and they are here. You need Acrobat Reader to read it.
As an aside, I notice that several people have now volunteered to GM in games. Is this a noble motive, wanting to serve the cause, or is there a more base motive, like getting to see how play develops as it goes.
A long time ago, in a land far away, I used to GM D&D games, and the appeal of that was creating worlds, springing traps, etc. Just wondering how much of this applies to the Dip GM world.
I’m popped over here as suggested in my Dip question thread. I’m currently in three games, good for a newbie I suppose but I don’t think I have the wherewithall to play in more than that. (as a side note, CeeeRipes Jonathan Chance how the heck do you keep all those games straight? I know that I’d end up getting a big alliance up against my own country 'cause I’d have forgotten which one was which)
Please keep me in mind though. If after the games I’m in really get started I feel like I’m on top of it all, I’ll check back in and see if there’s any openings.
Signed up already:
Lemur866
White Lightning
Abe Babe
anya marie
Jonathan Chance sent me an email saying he’d play so that makes 5. We need 2 more people.
One of my friends said he’d do it (we’ll call him Friend), and the other is on the fence (we’ll call him Fence Friend), so that is one or two more. I’ll let you know for sure when I know more.
So, we’ve got:
Lemur866
White Lightning
Abe Babe
anya marie
Jonathan Chance
All we need is two more victi…I mean players.
Oh, think I should mention, in case someone is interested but hasn’t played Diplomacy before. If you sign up, you should be prepared to make a commitment that might last several months. You will have to send in orders twice a week, but writing the orders themselves should only take a few minutes. The part that requires a time commitment is the diplomacy itself, where you communicate with the other players and try to arrange things. This can take as much, or as little time as you wish. The only trouble is, players who don’t communicate are much more likely to get attacked than players who do.
Well, I think I’ll jump in as well. Want to keep this game nice and confusing for WL, JC and AB. Plus I remember that anya marie is cute. Lemurs I don’t know so much about, but I liked the way he started taunting at the first chance he (you are a he, correct?) got.
One of my friends is definitely in (MacGee). Fence Friend is being a big fat weenie.
It looks like the current count is
Lemur866
White Lightning
Abe Babe
anya marie
Jonathan Chance
MacGee
We just need one more. What do you think Shibb?
OK, but I require a quitclaim of friendship betwixt the lawyer and his ‘friend’.
Never mind about that last part. Too late.
Sure, I (obviously) need the experience and it looks like it may get a bit slow over in the other campaign.
You would be amazed at how quickly these things turn around. In my last game, White Lightning and I were allied and took apart Austria and Turkey. He stabbed me brutally, but the next year we were allied to stop RT from going for the win.
These things change more often than outfits at a Britney Spears concert.
But nowhere near as attractively.
Is this “MacGee” registered on SDMB? He should at least register, even if he doesn’t post.
Now, is everyone agreed that Nate is getting Italy again?
I think Lemur might have a crush on JC. Awwww.
and JC, did I tell you that ‘friend’ is also a lawyer. Plaintiff’s PI no less.
I told him to register, at least to get updates, etc. but I don’t know what username it would be under. I sent an email with his address to Dave. Now if we could just get Dave to show up in here. . .
This part threw me. Did I get in or am I going to have to sit on the picnic bench over to the side, dribbling my ball to wait and play “winners”?
Ahh… memories.
My understanding, Shibb, is that you are in.
Ok, we’ve got :
Lemur866
White Lightning
Abe Babe
anya marie
Jonathan Chance
MacGee
ShibbOleth
Everybody send me an email to NASEDave@yahoo.com ( using my work addy to avoid confusion with the games I’m in ) with their email address. Abe, babe, have your people call MacGee’s people and relay the message. I’ll randomly assign countries in…about 1/2 an hour.
Ok, I numbered the players 1-7 as listed above, and then asked the first 7 people I talked to to pick a country. 3 were picked by random clients whom I was talking to on the phone, one by my son Matthew, one by Ginger and the last by my mom. The last country was, obviously, Shibb’s by default. This was as random as I could think of, I listed the countries in the same order each time ( T,A,I,F,E,G,R ), omitting only those picked already. Nobody knew why they were picking a country. The results:
Lemur866 : France
White Lightning : Turkey
Abe Babe : Italy
anya marie : Germany
Jonathan Chance : England
MacGee : Austria
ShibbOleth : Russia
That’s it. I’m thinking Tuesday/Friday 9 AM move deadlines, Builds due Saturday 9 AM. Please post here that you are aware of your country choices. Spring '01 moves are due Tuesday, Sept. 17th.
Let the dipping begin!
MacGee is getting a hotmail account, and I’ll tell him to email you when he gets it. I’ll tell him the country choices. He’ll be thrilled.
To clarify: I assume that 9 am means Eastern time (where Dave is) rather thatCentral time (where the SDMB server is)
