There’s at least a couple of other Dopers here in RI, some in CT, and maybe some from those far northern states too, so maybe you could get the title changed to New England Dopers, and mention a Dopefest too.
Great idea! I will report the thread and ask that the title be changed.
I changed the title like you asked.
Very much appreciated!
Weekends work better for me, but I might be able to sneak out on a week day. Probably not, but you never know. And it’s not like EVERY weekend works for me, so I’ll join if I can but don’t plan around me specifically if I end up the odd one out in the end.
Rock climbing wouldn’t be up my alley either. I don’t like heights, I’m clumsy, and I have the upper arm strength of a newborn.
I don’t know that there actually has been a dopefest since I started lurking or joined? Maybe one? It feels like one starts to get planned and then fizzles.
Hey, if you end up doing something on an October weekend, I might be able to join you. I’ll follow the thread and see what y’all decide.
I’m interested, as always. I might even be able to drag Pepper Mill along.
as far as I can tell, Oct. 18 after hours is free right now for us.
I’ve been to Christopher’s, and I recall enjoying it. I think I had mussels and cheese fries or something. Good tap list, too. I’m still trying to find a decent burger in the Boston area, so I’d be up for seeing how theirs stacks up.
Aeronaut is great as well, but only has occasional food trucks. And there’s The Independent and Brass Union in Union Square.
If too many people aren’t interested in rock climbing, we could always do option #1 and do Boda Borg in Malden. Another nice thing about an escape room thing is that there’s more interpersonal interaction than rock climbing. Working together and trying to solve the challenges, rather than just chatting while waiting in line to climb. Mystic Station and Ferry Street are nearby, and I’ve been meaning to check them out.
F.Pu and I are flexible, though, so we’re up for most things.
Pepper Mill, by the way, has just had an operation, and wouldn’t be up for rock climbing.
(Of course, she probably wouldn’t have been up for it before the operation, either. But now she has an excuse.)
Brooklyn Boulder and Aeronaut are literally a 2 minute walk from my house. Good choice. If I’m free I’ll certainly stop by but I’m not a climber although I can belay.
That’s the nice thing about Boda Borg, plenty of the challenges skew to the intellectual side. It would be cheaper, as well:
1 day pass at Boda Borg: $28 ($18 for 2 hours).
1 day pass at BKB: $39 ($29 for the pass + $10 for gear rental)
If we did a weekday evening, the 2 hour pass at Boda Borg would probably be more than enough.
I’d be interested in making it…although I can’t suggest any places to go.
However, there is a Harpoon Fest on Saturday Oct 1…
I definitely can’t make a Tuesday in October.
I think you’ve got all the preliminary feedback you’re going to get. I’m in for the 18th if you want to make it definite.
Let’s do it.
Tuesday, October 18th it is. Does the Porter Square location work for people?
You mean Christopher’s?
As much I can schedule anything further than 24 hours out I’m in.
Thanks TriPolar for the heads up!!
Christopher’s? In Cambridge right?
I might be able to make Oct 18 after work hours. Put me down as a definite maybe.
You know I’m in. I even put it in my calendar app, and I hardly ever use my calendar app.
That’s the place we were considering, yes. It’s in Cambridge, but very close to the Somerville line. Go to Porter Square and you (hopefully) can’t miss it.
Just saw this since I’m terrible about following MPSIMS - if I can get out of work in time to get over there, I’ll swing by. So put me in the “maybe” column as well.
