New England Dopefest

I meant Porter Square in general, since it’s public-transportation friendly, but Christopher’s seems like as good as location as any.

Please post if you’re interested and able to make:

Tuesday, October 18th, around 5:30 PM, at Christopher’s in Porter Square.

I’ll be there.

Will you be wearing a hat, though? I hear you do so often.

Hrm. I suppose I have to, don’t I?

I shall be in attendance; not bringing a guest, though.

As the day draws near we’ll need a headcount. And we should put some thought into how to recognize one another once we’re there.

Hmm. Long drive in commute-time traffic to get to even the Riverside T station.

Wear a short sleeve shirt and we should be able to find you.

Ok, that made me laugh.

We can reserve a table under the name Cecil Adams and find each other that way.

For what it’s worth, if you’re coming in from the west, I’d just drive all the way in. The reverse commute on the Pike isn’t bad at all if you get off at 17 or 18 (though a 5:30-in-Cambridge target is probably worse than half an hour earlier, or an hour later). Source: daily commute. Offer may not be valid if you have to do a bunch of 495 or 95 to get to the Pike in the first place.

Also, for you or anyone else that prefers a drive+transit combo to a full trip via car: you want Alewife rather than Riverside. Riverside to Porter Square would run at least an hour just on its own.

I hate to break it to you but…

First the guy who only sometimes wears hats, and now you…

I know it’s disappointing. You just can’t believe anything you read online, ‘lorene’.

While you should definitely go for Alewife over Riverside, just a warning, the traffic around Alewife can be rough at that hour.

Thanks. I come up I-84 to Thuh Pike and drive to Logan at least three or four times a year, but we try to schedule flights for weekend mornings to avoid traffic. We’ve gotten to central Boston via Riverside a number of times as well. I don’t mind the time of the ride as much as I do hassles on surface streets; tell me why Alewife would be a better choice?

I am actually driving all the way to the JFK Library on Monday for my fabled rendezvous with the legends of rock and roll.

From Alewife to Porter Square is just two stops on the Red Line. And there’s a big parking garage at Alewife and most people will be leaving as you’re arriving.

Of course, there’s a big lot at Riverside, too.

What’s goin’ on at the Library?

But Riverside is at the end of the green line, and you need to go all the way into town and then out on the red line to get to Porter. Alewife to Porter is just two stops, and is easy.

I will come!

Bumping this in case there are other New England posters who have not yet seen this.

Far be it from me to bump something when I still can’t commit to it 100%, but I should note that the planned date is next Tuesday and if there’s any planning or counts to be figured out… well, just wanted to make sure no one forgot!

…the low temp for tomorrow (10/14/16) for Boston is predicted to be 43°F
