For what it’s worth, if you’re coming in from the west, I’d just drive all the way in. The reverse commute on the Pike isn’t bad at all if you get off at 17 or 18 (though a 5:30-in-Cambridge target is probably worse than half an hour earlier, or an hour later). Source: daily commute. Offer may not be valid if you have to do a bunch of 495 or 95 to get to the Pike in the first place.
Also, for you or anyone else that prefers a drive+transit combo to a full trip via car: you want Alewife rather than Riverside. Riverside to Porter Square would run at least an hour just on its own.
Thanks. I come up I-84 to Thuh Pike and drive to Logan at least three or four times a year, but we try to schedule flights for weekend mornings to avoid traffic. We’ve gotten to central Boston via Riverside a number of times as well. I don’t mind the time of the ride as much as I do hassles on surface streets; tell me why Alewife would be a better choice?
I am actually driving all the way to the JFK Library on Monday for my fabled rendezvous with the legends of rock and roll.
From Alewife to Porter Square is just two stops on the Red Line. And there’s a big parking garage at Alewife and most people will be leaving as you’re arriving.
But Riverside is at the end of the green line, and you need to go all the way into town and then out on the red line to get to Porter. Alewife to Porter is just two stops, and is easy.
Far be it from me to bump something when I still can’t commit to it 100%, but I should note that the planned date is next Tuesday and if there’s any planning or counts to be figured out… well, just wanted to make sure no one forgot!
