If it did, there’s not really an error- the music which is well known as the theme for Star Trek: The Next Generation was originally composed as the theme song for Star Trek: The Motion Picture, which was a Kirk. (Since my family prefers TNG and newer to the original series, I refer to the films as “Kirks” and “Picards”, based on who stars in it.)
As most Burger King ads run the gamut from “meh” to “WTF?”, I was stunned to actually be entertained by one.
Has anyone else seen the BK “motivational speaker” ad? The speaker is addressing his audience about the virtues of “sitting”. Pretty “meh” until the end, when he says: YOU’RE FULL OF SIT! I’M FULL OF SIT! WE’RE ALL FULL OF SIT!!!
I think I laughed for about 3 full minutes! Just wish there was a link to it, but it’s apparently not online yet.
That’s the first one I thought of, too! I’m a straight girl, but there’s something about that actress that is totally compelling. Something about her raspy voice and cool outfit, I think.
I also love the way she says “grr!” pretending she’s mad at her cell. It’s so perfectly fakey.
The “Mini wheats wheats wheats” song.
It could easily become unbearable if it was on at every break, but it’s really not on that much and it makes me happy every time I hear it.
Oh. I’ve never liked the first Star Trek movie, so I probably wouldn’t remember one way or the other.
What is that footage taken from, anyway? No way DirecTV would have pulled together that kind of money to shoot something entirely new.
A certain Jeopardy! sponsor returned to the show tonight, with an amusing self-parodic twist on their infamous, bizarre commercial:
(On a green screen, a woman rubs HeadOn™ onto her forehead. Next to her, the words 'HEADON- Apply directly to forehead" appear)
ANNOUNCER: HeadOn- apply directly to the forehead. HeadOn- apply directly to the forehead. Head…
(the action stops as a woman, looking and sounding somewhat like the poor man’s Julia Louis-Dreyfus, walks onto the screen)
WOMAN: (in a mocking tone) “HeadOn- apply directly to the forehead! HeadOn- apply directly to the forehead!” I hate your commercial! (holds up a package of HeadOn™) But I love your product.
ANNOUNCER: HeadOn is available without a prescription at drugstores nationwide.
Maybe you should switch…We could reconnect. Open mouth gum chewing
That’s funny…Especially the ‘Grrr’.
I also like the Milwaukee’s Best (I think) crushing giant beer can ads. The one where the guys are looking at the lawnmower and three notice the forth is wearing leopard print undies is a riot.
Yes! that’s fabulous!
Tween girl: “What smells like old cheese?”
Hobo: “Oh that’s just Earl.”
I’ve been sooo looking for it on YouTube. If anyone has a link, please PLEASE share it!
Thanks
That one and the classic dorky chunky nerd turning down the gorgeous babe in the red sportscar. And the Vonage van attacking the car thieves.
I was about to kill over the “ooh hoo ooohh hoohooo” commercials.
And I want to say this about Vonage. Don’t know much about the company except the commercials and don’t have lots of complaints about the phone/internet service I use. If I see something better I’d use it, but better the devil you know than the devil you don’t, in my experience.
But I got a small padded mailer from them in the mail.
“Ooh! A promo! A pen! A magnet! Something worth putting in a mailer!”
It was the folded up card that you get bulkmailed if you have ANY kind of address.
Sorry, Vonage. Massive waste.
Your bad.

Clever indeed. Best commercial I’ve seen in a dog’s age. The person I saw it last night thought it was offensive and labeled me a sadist for laughing so hard.
When your insurance is in sync, you can roll with anything: Travelers
Ugh. I hate that one. The first time I saw it, I turned to my wife and said, “Usually when I dream about beavers they don’t look like that and they don’t talk.”
I hate the Gatorade one with the kids with the adult athlete heads. Looks like demented bobbleheads.
I love the cell phone one with the mother and teen daughter “arguing” that was already mentioned.
I just saw another one I like. It’s one of the Monster.com commercials with the guy who works in an office with chimps. The chimp is jumping around on a bunch of bubble wrap. He is having such a ball doing it, that I have to smile every time I see it.
There’s also the recent Monster.com one where the guy is at the urinal and the chimp comes up to the urinal next to him and starts hooting at him and they have a “conversation” and then the chimp walks away and slaps the guy on the ass.
Oh, and there’s a cell phone commercial where one guy is looking at his buddy’s cell phone and notices that his own girlfriend is listed as one of his buddy’s “Five” (as in favorite five–kind of like a buddy list for your cell phone I guess). He’s getting suspicious and jealous and the buddy is trying to explain it away when the phone rings and the ringtone is the song “Secret Lover.”
I’ve liked most of Peyton Manning’s commercials recently - and ho boy have there been a bunch.
The one where he’s got the bad toupee and fake moustache talking about how great Peyton Manning is though is just absolutely hilarious. Such a dork! So cute!
I’ve also been liking the Tommy Lasorda “watch the postseason of baseball” commercials.
What’s the ad that talks about small-car claustrophobia? That one cracks me up, especially at the end when there’s a man holding a golden retriever puppy and spinning around (slowly and awkwardly, and obviously looking at the camera the whole time). I think the last words in the commercial are of him saying to the puppy, “You are SO CUTE!”. It makes me smile.
I like the Volvo commercial where the dad and his daughter are in an empty parking lot and he’s teacher her to drive a manual. “Ease off the clutch, ease on the gas…” “Easing right now, Dad!”
It just reminds me of when my dad was teaching me to drive.
Ahh, I found them on YouTube. They’re for the Nissan Versa.
Ahh, I found them on YouTube. They’re for the Nissan Versa.
I like two that have already been mentioned, the cell phone one with the mom and daughter having a ‘fight’ but they’re actually saying nice things to each other and the car one with the little girl just rambling on and on and on. I like the look on the dad’s face as he wonders whether or not to shut the door so he can go around and get in. He finally does, and she just keeps on talking.
I also like the one for Kleenex tissues. It’s an older one, but I’ve seen it recently again. The Buddhist Monk is carefully placing spiders and flies back outside his home, rather than squishing them, and then blows his nose and sees the tissue box that says it “Kills 99% of germs.” The look on his face is so sad.
I have a new favorite commercial. Liberty Mutual “Responsibility: What’s your policy?”
The link goes to the Liberty Mutual website, and can also be viewed on YouTube, but at very low resolution. I really love the wide variety of people chosen for this ad, and the actors portray earnest really well. I’ve no plans to purchase Liberty’s insurance, but the ad makes me want to go out and do nice things for strangers.
(Don’t get me wrong, I get a huge kick out of the “you bonehead” commercials that are currently playing, but this ad is beautiful and sweet.)
