Well, it’s back to work for me and I can’t even opt to take a mental health day because I’m also the acting director this week. All this really means is that I sign stuff that needs director level stuff and am the point of contact for our state if the director’s boss needs to reach out, or if something at a higher level needs to get pushed down to our state.
I mowed the lawn, did some weeding, and transplanted some plants and flowers yesterday. I never did make it to Lowes.
Today’s temps are supposed to top out at around 72 degrees with partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies all day. So much for the first day of summer. On the other hand, I am grateful not to be enduring the temps that some of you are experiencing. I don’t really care for temps much above 75 degrees, to be honest.
Guess I’ll cruise some international news and then unload the dishwasher. I hope you all have a good day!
Morning all. Can’t seem to get much pass 6am these days what with the sun arriving early, may have to break out the sleeping mask. Nothing much on the schedule today, so we’ll see what happens.
OK, pills have been taken so onward into the day. All y’all take care.
Riddle me this: what’s the difference between “roasted” and “oven roasted”? Aldi sells almonds of each type. Same price, slightly different colored bags. They taste the same to me. What am I missing?
Seanette, I’m sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I hope you find something you enjoy doing. I’ve found that the hardest part is putting my shoes on. You can do this.
This week is going to be weird. We’re having an offsite for work. I really don’t want to go. I’ve become so spoiled working from home, and I’ve also become pretty jaded. Most of these offsites are corporate garbage - lots of buzzwords, But it will be nice to see people I haven’t gotten to see for a few years.
In other news, I burned to bejeezus out of my hand. It was an idiotic mistake. I boiled coffee on the stove so I could have some before a meeting and, while I was pouring it, my son walked in to talk to me. I looked up to answer a question and poured said boiling coffee all over my left hand, so the damn thing’s covered in blisters (the hand, not the coffee), one of which is in the shape of my wedding ring. Glad I thought to pull it off. I guess I now understand why they have those notes on cups reminding people that hot coffee is, well, hot.
After two rounds at Captain Hook’s Adventure Golf (each of us won one), we walked up and down the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and enjoyed a few beers and pizza slices.
The afternoon was a bit muggy but once the sun started going down it was a beautiful evening along the oceanfront.
Not much else to report about yesterday. Heading two hours down the coast to Charleston shortly, and back to Baseball tonight.
It’s hot here. Yesterday was 93 and today about the same, but there is no humidity so I’m not in the panic attack stage. I slept until 8:30! I am now surfing on my laptop while watching Wimbledon qualifiers on my iPad. I am so high tech. I may not get dressed today! . I have no idea about dinner. I may make my bed today. I can do this now that I am retired (have I mentioned that lately???)
Both Felix (RB) and Allie were/are intensely disinterested in most human food. Felix did like McDonald’s fries or Haagen-Dazs Dulce de Leche ice cream, as well as one particular brand of string cheese stick. Allie has ONCE since her adoption in 2011 eaten even a little bit of people food that I know of, and that was a nibble of a graham cracker. Still figuring Buddy out.
I love dogs, and affectionately call them Roombas on paws.
Looks like we figured out motivating George to switch on a few more brain cells.
Afternoon, mumpers! Well, technically evening since it’s gone 5pm. It’s 24c/75f and sunny. Weather app says “This is a perfect fucking beach day. May I suggest Black’s Beach in San Diego?”
It’s been very hot and humid in the house today, I am working from home as there’s a national rail strike going on and it would be ridiculous to even consider trying to get to the office on campus. It takes me an hour and a half using public transport on a good day, so on a rail strike day when I take two trains? No, not even bothering. Apparently tomorrow the two rail routes I use will each only be running two trains per hour so I reckon I’m not even going to bother with that.
Been a very busy day here, I’ve been in marks/results scrutiny meetings all day as we have exam board meetings starting tomorrow. That’s taken up about six hours of my day so far and I’ve got a bunch of things to do after both of them before we can run a final set of reports for our Board of Examiners meetings later. We’re also being reminded constantly not to work more than our scheduled hours, so that’s not making things any easier.
Back in the mid-70s, this was a clothing-optional beach. Dunno if it still is. And no, I never went there, but when I was taking flying lessons, my instructor would have me fly along the coast so he could sightsee, the old perv!
I’m having my Trader Joe’s Cobb salad in the orifice in Burien. I got one of their compostable forks to eat it with. Looks like wood. The trouble is that it’s like licking on a take-out chopstick. Not a fan. I got a plastic fork from the basement ‘kitchen’.
I don’t know what the temperature is here, but at home it’s 64° Ferret Height.
Jeebus, who turned up the humidity? Thank Og for popsicles. I’m turning into the world’s oldest toddler.
Working on screwing myself out of a bad depression cycle and getting a new job. I know, you already know that about me.
The heat/humidity isn’t helping. I have job prospects, I just need to (screw together enough mental health to) follow through.
ETA my tattoo appnt is in a few weeks and I am SO EXCITED
Afternoon all. Ended up taking a 2-hour nap today, didn’t feel particularly tired, but a big lunch and early AM get ups the last couple of days led to it. Made up for the sloth by going to the gym and pedaling 10 miles on the stationary bike, will go back later today and put in another 10 miles (or at least that is the plan…). Ah well, dishes are all washed so there is that.
Wheelie, I’m looking for a short vacation this July since my major vacation was in early May this year and you might be talking me in to the Carolina shores (with or without baseball).
OK, need to get a couple things done around the house and then head back to the gym for the second pedaling. All y’all take care.
seanette, I’m glad that you are beginning to get a handle on your health issues before they become worse.
JtC, GG ain’t just another purty face! He’s learning.
wheelie, I love themed mini golf courses! Before it closed, my SIL, nephew, sweetie and I used to go up to Cave City for Golgotha Golf . Given that we’re a buncha heathens and there was usually some alcohol involved, it was a hoot.
Irked, froze up the app that I was flashing phones with this afternoon, meaning that I had to hard reset everything that was in process at the moment when IT told me to close the program and reboot. Oy, vey! Now I know the limit of how many phones are practical to connect at one time (the app says up to 10, there are currently nine cables and it froze up at seven).
After KP, I’ll work on a new project in the studio. Such excitement!
We took off for the valley and the final clean-out last Thorsday and worked on getting stuff out of the old house until yesterday. Came home last night. I wasn’t on the internet that whole time, so now I’m catching up.
So, hugs, boos, etc.
House was supposed to close today, but the appraisal wasn’t back yet, (it was promised but not delivered), so closing got put off until Friday. Doesn’t matter to us that much. We already signed what we needed to sign last Friday. Now, barring a major meteor strike or an alien invasion, we’ll be done soon. Unless the universe decides to screw with us some more.
We still have a storage unit full of stuff over there that we’ll have to move into a storage unit over here in a couple weeks when one comes available, but that’s a headache for another day.
One of our neighbors directly across the street died a few days ago and there’s been a SUV and big trailer parked over there and some folks loading furniture and other stuff into it. Kinda sad that Bob’s entire life is getting hauled away to the landfill. I guess they sold his pickup already. It had a sign in the window for a while, but the sign’s gone now.
We didn’t really know him. He was very reclusive. We found out that he does have family, but they never came around, except for one niece. Makes you think.
