New Hampshire Primary Discussion

Bennet is out, announcing now.

Biden knew he got blown out in NH - that’s why he got out of town early.

His donors need to cut him off and end it. The losses are only going to get more embarrassing.

Who knew Bennett was still in the race?

Klobuchar is emerging as the real center-left candidate, which is only going to make it harder for Bloomberg.

Biden and Warren are doing abysmally. Klobuchar is enjoying a boost IMO from her closing lines of the last debate where she said she was basically going to fight for “the little guy.” I have to give her credit, it sounded very genuine. I think if she keeps campaigning on that message, if she really doubles down on that kind of personal connection to voters, she actually has a shot at the nomination. Sadly I do not think she has a shot at beating Trump.

She might, but the economy would have to deteriorate between now and then.

That’s true for any of the candidates, though, including Bernie, Pete, or Uncle Joe.

But I think Uncle Joe’s probably gonna be sent to the retirement home tonight.

And, realistically, no one in the Friday debate had given a thought to Amy coming into it. But, Amy used her time during the impeachment trial to work on her debate lines.

Klob is just as liberal as the rest of them (except for Sanders) but she has a certain intangible quality that Warren simply does not have. Unlike Hillary, she seems to have a soul. I’m not so sure that she couldn’t put a dent in Trump and make his attacks look mean-spirited.

I know that posters will say, duh, Trump’s attacks are mean spirited, but you don’t feel any sympathy for Hillary for being the brunt of them, nor Rubio, Cruz, Crazy Bernie, Old man Joe, or Pocahontas. They would land flat with Klob. She might be the best hope there.

Hijack, but why are FiveThirtyEight’s live blogs always so broken? That page appears blank (except for the banner) on my Win box in both Chrome and Firefox. On Mac it works in Firefox but is blank in Chrome. I often got the same thing with their Dem debate live blogs, though sometimes for no obvious reason it was fine.

This country has always needed a Humphrey Democratic-Farmer-Labor candidate but has not always voted for it. Go Amy!

Try manually refreshing the page from time to time. Sometimes their apps get out of sync. Or try fiddling with your script/adblocking stuff.

Or maybe just try a different site. Check out the Upshot’s Needle -

Watching Biden address supporters now. He’s trying to play up the Black and Hispanic support angle. The degree to which he is harping on it in his speech seems to carry an implication of “white-ass New Hampshire may have rejected me, but you guys are the voters who are really important, not like the people in white-ass New Hampshire.”

I have to give him this though - the speech is coherent. He’s not saying a bunch of stupid shit. It sounds spontaneous and natural, and he’s doing a good job of reading his audience.

Pete making a nice move as more votes come in. I’m liking it. Probably not enough to overtake Bernie, but it’ll be nice to finish a very close second

Take your Trumpian racist bullshit elsewhere, please.

Klobuchar is killing it on her speech right now.

I’m defending UltraVires on this one (!?!). I though that was actually a cogent little analysis, and the epithets were clearly (to me) as if from Trump’s perspective, not necessarily (from this post alone) those of the poster.

The New York Times has a really great auto-updating page too with lots of info. However, it may be paywalled for some people (I was paywalled on Chrome browser but not Firefox browser…dunno why).

I’m surprised Klobuchar is doing so well, I thought Biden’s supporters were going to Pete.

Who cares if the analysis is good if it propogates a slur? If Trump’s nickname for Booker was N-word Cory, would you be OK with posters repeating that?

I think a lot of Biden supporters like his experience. On that score, Buttigieg is diametrically opposed.
