New Mexico Dopefest!

Ya, I’m part of that great coalition of evil. I think Santa Fe will be fine but I have to meet with an insurance agent Saturday morning so if we can push meeting back until after 3 that would be great.

Assuming something’s going to happen in Santa Fe, can I float a suggestion for Del Charro? I’ve heard they have great burgers, and I can attest to the joy that is both their nachos and their ridiculously huge margaritas. Plus, they probably won’t be very crowded on a Sunday afternoon pre-tourist season.

How about this: I can give Basandre a twenty spot to pay for gas between Albuquerque and Santa Fe. The only reason I thought of that is because I picked up a game on Saturday and I’d rather not drive down there twice.

Oredigger, I have a rugby game in Albuquerque on Saturday at 3:30 that I just found out about. I’m not sure what your schedule looks like, just let us know. I’m not sure if you’re talking about Saturday or Sunday at 3.

NinjaChick is spot on about Del Charro, it’s sure to be loved by all. If I’m being good, I can get out of there for $12, including a burger, nachos, or a stuffed pablando, plus a margarita and tip. Even if I’m not being good, I still can usually get out of there for less than $25 (three huge margaritas plus the meal and tip).

I was talking about Saturday I’m open all day sunday. Sounds like a good place I’m up for it.

Heh, Del Charro is about the only bar I didn’t like in Santa Fe. Maybe it’s just when I’ve been there, but it’s always been filled with loud, drunk people, and the Margs I got there were so bad we literally left them full and walked out.

That said, if’n you all want to go there, I’m game to give it another try (I can always drink bottled beer - they can’t screw that up!). I know a lot of people seem to like that bar, so maybe I’m just missing something or going on the wrong days. Plus I don’t have a better suggestion - good & cheap seems to be a hard thing to find in Santa Fe! (all other combos are easy - good & expensive is everywhere, bad & expensive is a close second, and bad & cheap is around occasionally too)

Early-ish Sunday in Santa Fe sounds good to me. PM with directions to this place, Santo Rugger or NinjaChick, please? I’ll be coming from the north, and don’t know Santa Fe well.

Athena, I can all but promise that there won’t be any loud drunk people there early Sunday.

And I’ll probably ride my motorcycle, so that’ll be one less, for sure.

I’ve scoured my brain, and can’t really think of a better place to meet that is in or near downtown that has inexpensive food and serves drinks (the only reason I put drinks on the list is in case we decide we want to chat for a bit longer than it takes to eat). I know a couple waiters there, though, so I -may- be able to talk them into letting us sit in the private room between the patio and the bar, but they usually only let us sit there when it’s pretty busy and we have a big group. But it never hurts to ask. I’ll keep thinking, though.

PM Sent.

So what time we goin’?

I think BlueKangaroo should pick a time that works for her, that’s starts after 1 and ends before 6, so as to be convenient for NinjaChick.

3 or so might be best for Oredigger?

How about 1:30pm, if that works for Oredigger?

Just chiming in to say either 1:30 or 3 would work fine for me (though 1:30 would be a smidge better, because then I can be lazy and take the bus back to campus, rather than walk or bike).

1:30pm on sunday? I’m there

So how will we all know each other?

Last time I tried to go to a Dopefest I drove an hour to Denver (twice, since I got the date wrong the first time), got to the restaurant, then couldn’t find everyone. The host swore there was no table under the name of “Cecil Adams” as we had planned. So like, everyone wear a red shirt or something

('course, Del Charro is small enough that I could stand in the middle of the bar and say “Hi Opal!” and someone would hear me…)

Um, that’s how I usually do it (the Cecil Adams thing, not the Opal thing), and it works. Since I don’t actually know any of you in person though (unless Basandre) makes it, I may be a bit at loose ends.

Santo Rugger, were you planning to make reservations or something? At least leave a note with the host for the “Cecil Adams” party?

Well I’m about the easiest person you’ll ever meet to pick out of a crowd. 6’6" and about 400# if you miss me your blind. But a table for Cecil is probably better then looking for the big guy.

I’ll be there in spirit. Love that town. It’s been 13 years since I was last in Santa Fe. Tomasita’s Restaurant was my favorite place to eat. Is it still there? I imagine there are new places now.

Well, I just got back from Del Charro (what a coincidence, right?) and after talking to 2 of the 3 waitstaff I knew, out of 10 or so that are there, we have a decent chance of getting the semi-private room, although both of them expressed it probably wouldn’t be necessary because of the almost certain lackadaisical atmosphere expected at that time. They did remind me that it was the end of Spring Break for at least SFCC, but the few guys I know from there are still going to be out of town; I expect their comrades will be as well. I’ll probably be the only guy there wearing motorcycle gear (red and black), **Oredigger **will be the guy who should be playing ball for the San Juan Silverbacks, and Athena, BK, and NC will be the attractive ones. I’m not sure how we’re going to recognize Mr. Athena yet.

Most of you have my number by now, so I don’t think that will be a problem, and I think the descriptions and the fact that I know personally at least half the people that will be working will make things a lot easier.

Are we settled on 1:30?

I’ll be there, and I’ll be the really short chick.

I think we are, and I don’t think you’re the only really short chick who will be in attendance, since I think I’ve read your comments before and we’re the same height.

Sunday, 1:30, Del Charro in Santa Fe, got it. Sorry I haven’t been back to this thread in a couple of days, but I’m just wrapping up the last two classes for my master’s degree (Yay!)
