For all its faults I thought back to earth wasn’t so bad. The cast was in good form and there were some funny jokes. The story mostly sucked though. Haven’t heard much of this new series, but I’m cautiously optimistic.
What is DAVE?
Dave is a TV channel in the UK. They show lots of reruns - er, classic shows - but they have some of their own programming, too.
Me, I wasn’t impressed with Back to Earth, apart from the “zoom, enhance, zoom, rotate” bit, nor the last few series, so I’m just hoping it won’t be so bad I have to change my name.
I love me some Red Dwarf. Will be interested to see if they get some quality back in it.
As an aside, Is it just me or did Craig Charles and Chris Barrie look a little…odd? Like maybe too much make up trying to cover up their aging or something?
Yeah, Kryten and the Cat looked great, (especially the Cat! Me-ow!) but Rimmer and Lister looked like they’d aged a whole lot.
Somehow seems oddly appropriate that The Cat looks as good as ever.
The other two have obviously visibly aged, but hopefully it will be great. I never saw IX though.
I forgot how much I liked that show.
They are all around 50 now. The first series they were approaching 30. Not many shows, especially sitcoms, span such a long era.
Just watched it. I liked it quite a lot. They were all at the top of their game, and the episode itself was fun.
I’m only about 3 minutes in the first episode and I’m finding the constant laughtrack to be an extremely annoying irritant. I’m new to red dwarf, but are they all like this? If so, I won’t be watching.
…I haven’t seen the episode yet: but it was filmed in front of a live audience: the first time in many series. So if it is a laugh track its augmented: but I think its actually just the live audience you are hearing.
Can we watch Dave TV online in the US? I registered but it’s not playing.
I have only four words;
“Hey ho pippin’ dandy.”
It is probably region locked. You need to have (or appear to have) a British IP address to see it.
I watched is last night and I found it to be a fairly good episode. No where near as good as the Series 1-6, but miles better than the “back to earth” series a few years ago.
The makeup artist need to do a bit more work around Kryten’s eyes. Robert’s wrinkles are really showing in a few of the scenes.
That was suprisingly good. I didn’t have high hopes after the last special, but that wasn’t bad at all, much better than i’d been expecting.
ARGH! How can I watch this in the US?!
Google is your friend.
Structurally and joke-wise it felt very much like Classic Dwarf.
I have no idea where it’s supposed to fit into continuity. Rimmer has his H back, no Kochanski, no Holly, and somehow Lister can contact a shopping channel even though it’s a 3,000,000 year old signal.
Yeah, definitely classic dwarf. The moose thing had me rolling on the floor.
I too am curious as to whether there is any sort of continuity here at all… Is it meant to take place at a specific time? Is it supposed to be a reboot of the narrative?
I was pleasantly surprised - after that one-off abomination I expected this to be unwatchable. But they seem to have returned to the old formula, to the degree where it felt rather like a reunion tour.
