With all the people who’ve had relatives dying or getting sick or such, what do y’all think about a new crying smilie? Sometimes, for me, 
doesn’t quite do it. I’m nto volunteering to draw it up (because I have 0 artistic talent) but I think it’s worth consideration.
There’s one here I roughed out for you.
Is that waht you had in mind?
My concept had open eyes . . . I just don’t like the idea of crying with your eyes closed. That, however, is probably a personal preference. I also had the color more red.
If you have a recent version of AIM, hold down control and press 6 to get an idea of that teary face.
But otherwise valiant effort:) I cannot draw.

It took a while, but I got the guy you described. (I had to download the AIM and sign up and find a chat room and turn off the newsletter) I added it at the link above.
I might try to make it more like the SDMB ones, but I only if I think it might get installed. I like the larger size (19x19 pixels vs. 16x16). Maybe they would all be better a bit bigger. It allows for more expressions, that’s for sure.
But don’t hold your breath. The last new smiley :j got a cool reception, so the topic has been a non-starter for some time. Once bitten, twice shy, I think.

What you have done is precisely what the folks at the SDMB want to avoid - you have taken a graphic created by someone else (namely, AOL) and posted in online without asking permission or giving credit.
This is why they are loathe to introduce new smileys.
It’s just my opinion, but I think you should remove the AIM smiley from your webpage.

As mentioned above, I planned to make one from scratch (like the one I already did, but with iampunha’s suggestion of open eyes) so it would fit in with the rest of the set.
Just got ahead of myself. Sigh. More work for a smiley with an uncertain future. Just what I needed.
I got the revised smiley up at the site. I opened the eyes, but can’t get much more expression in the smaller size.
But maybe it will still work to make your point that a crying smiley is requested.
