New Star Trek has a title: Star Trek Discovery.

Every new generation of Trek recreates the Klingons.

But these have got to be the ugliest sons of Kahless to ever tread the Klingon homeworld.

Also, common CBS. It’s 2017. Why is your trailer 720p?! Even some of the youtube commentators talking over your trailer are broadcasting at 4K.

I’ll just leave this here in case anyone wants to a dose of synthpop Klingon truth. More fun than the trailer!

The Klingon bastards fly around
always ready for some war
They don’t care about any rules at all
as long as they can kill some more
Evil barbarians without discipline
unpredictable death machines

With their cloaking device they remain invisible
until the time has come
to appear right ahead of us
and obliterate everyone
If you ever would give them a helping hand
you can be sure they’ll chop off your arm

Never, ever, never trust a Klingon
you will always regret it
Never, ever, never trust a Klingon
you will never forget it

This isn’t a new generation. It’s set just a few years before Kirk. And supposedly in the Prime Universe, which has one look for Klingons, and one look for Klingon Augments which made them look human. The latter are the ones that Starfleet had contact with at this time.

The tech is also way, way too fancy. This has to fit where you could then go watch TOS after this, and only think the effects have gotten better. The tech can’t be more advanced. At this time, computers sound robotic, and use “tapes”. Holograms aren’t yet a thing. Voice command is primitive and requires buttons to initiate. And computers that can handle it are big.

You just can’t do this in the Prime Universe. That is the one that has all the continuity. And that’s what they promised they were doing. They specifically targeted the fans who were unhappy with movie continuity.

Messing main universe continuity up is why Enterprise failed. The best episodes were all ones that got it right, and stuck with telling the story that had been built up.

If they wanted to do all this, they should have set it after the TNG era, and pick some new aliens that they can make look like that. With those Klingons, it doesn’t even fit in the movie universe.

Real world new generation, not show world. Just like the TOS movies remade the Klingons from the TV show.

Is it? I thought it failed because of boring stories, boring characters and an awful theme song. The first few episodes bored me rigid, and I didn’t watch after that. Continuity had nothing to do with me not watching it.

Continuity is a non-issue. It’s too restrictive and it ultimately has no benefits. Just relax and enjoy the show.

Is that “come on, CBS”?

CBS is doing the Tandy Computers of modern video - trying to pull all their stuff behind a paywall and doing nearly every facet of it wrong.

The more I hear about this show, the less I care. I’ve gone from hopeful optimism to actively wishing disaster to the show and it’s network. Like “loses $500 million dollars and goes downhill from there, all executives fired” disaster.

Personally I’d prefer something set between the TOS movies and TNG; at least they have best uniforms.

Yeah, it has been pretty much a slow-moving train wreck all during production. But now a handful of alt-righters are complaining that casting black and asian leads is “white genocide”, so now we’ll get the side benefit of everyone who doesn’t like the new show (for any reason) being branded as racists! Oh god, what a terrible, terrible movie, and yeah, you had to prepare to defend yourself from insinuations that you must be sexist. Nah, the writing was horrible, the characters uninteresting, and it wasn’t funny. Things the original movie (not the sequels so much) had down pat.

It wasn’t some masterpiece of a movie (the usual attack on it after the latest movie) but it was a hell of a better one simply because it was a heck of a lot more fun.

We have an official premiere date: September 24th. The first episode will air on CBS and on the same day the first two episodes will be on CBS All Access.

Episodes will appear on CBS all Access weekly until November 5th and then there will be a break until January 2018 where the remainder will stream weekly for a total of 13 episodes.

I’ll tune in with low expectations and gladly have them exceeded.

My husband sings it to me often.

It’s only a week away and I have to admit I am getting excited. The is some grumbling because the review embargo but others who have seen scripts have said the show is really well written and the embargo is to protract form spoilers and leaks. We’ll knpow soon enough.

Something that only just dawned on me. This is 10 years before TOS. The Enterprise was in service for decades before Kirk took over. That means in theory we could see the Enterprise being captained by Robert April. That would be cool.

Eh, I never liked the Robert April character. I hope they come up with fresh stuff instead of trying to fit things into pre-established continuity.

Anyway, will I be able to watch this? I just have Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime.

The show is only available on CBS’s own streaming service, CBS All Access, so no, you won’t be able to watch it. I’m wondering just how many people will watch it.

The premiere is suppose to be on CBS TV and then all episodes will be on CBS All Access. I still won’t be able to watch, as I don’t have a TV. :frowning:

You could always wait a bit to rent it.
