It’s a long time since I read those books, but as I recall we’re talking about someone who slapped slimy worm larvae all over his body and eventually started swelling up and becoming all fang-y and non-human.
And even so: not anywhere near as gross as Donald J. Trump.
Imagine if he did announce that he’s not going to seek a second term. Immediately other Democratic leaders start jockeying for the 2024 nomination. Biden’s a lame duck. Even Kamala would be distracted by the 2024 election. Better to assume he’s still going to run in 2024.
She has no idea(s) period, the end. Her platform was DumpsterFire’s - whatever shiny thing that crossed his vision in the last 5 minutes. I was “exposed” to her campaign ads relentlessly when I was in Georgia from August to early December. Not a positive position anywhere. Hate, violence, racism (running against a gasp black preacher/communist/antifa/blm/rioter), FEAR, FEAR, FEAR. Married into money. Just a vile, vacuous, incurious oozing boil on DumpsterFire’s ass.
With all due respect to Mr. Herbert, I can’t imagine a real human being combining selflessness with the will-to-dominate. Just not in the nature of the species, for those things to coexist. (Of course dictators always claim to be selfless, but no sensible person believes them.)
As for Stupid Republican Ideas of the Day: I bet tomorrow—‘meeting of the Electoral College’ day—will provide a plethora.
I hate to be pedantic, but no, Biden will not be removed, he will, like a normal rational adult, leave voluntarily, because his time is up instead of screaming and stomping his feet as he goes out the door.
Man, Alex must be so fucking happy Trump lost. The last four years have been the worst for him. It’s a lot easier to fleece the idiots for millions of dollars when all you have to do is throw shit at the government, no matter what they do. Having to actually find excuses for Trump’s failures that he can monetize had to be way harder.
To be fair, he was a quasi-immortal being with the ability to see into the future and the memories of all of his ancestors. I don’t think regular psychological paradigms apply.
This doesn’t qualify as “new,” except I just learned about it.
A friend works in logistics and has to deal with making sure sure hazmat is shipped legally. She explained to me that the administration’s antipathy to regulation has led to these rules getting bogged down and passed months behind schedule. Does “less regulation” make things easier for shippers? No, it actually makes their job more complicated, because they have to comply with the old rules in the US and the new rules everywhere else.
Definitely this would make for a good thread (in Cafe Society, presumably), though I’m not sure exactly how to narrow it down to ‘character plausibility issues in science fiction’ without it turning into a more general thread. Worth some thought…
