NEW Stupid Republican Idea of the Day (Part 1)

That seems like a functionally reasonable reason to me. What am I missing?

She’s not refusing to sign the bill for civil rights reasons but because Almighty Dollar.

That’s what I’m saying: who cares what her reason is? (That’s why I used the word “functionally.”) You’re aware that most things most people and organizations do are for the almighty dollar, not for pure, ideological reasons, right?

At least there was reasoning involved in the decision. That is a step in the right direction.

If I read between the lines correctly, the problem is this: Noem vetoed the bill along with suggestions for revisions to make, then send her the bill again. The revisions (along with whatever other changes the legislature makes) may be more surgically targeted, thus even more blatantly anti-LGBTQ biased yet more likely to NOT have the unwanted side-effects.

That assumes that the NCAA is a bunch of complete fucking idiots* since they passed this one first.

Also, are there a lot of playoff/championship events hosted in South Fucking Dakota? How much are they worried about giving up?

* Okay, I KNOW they are, but the people who influence them (advertisers) aren’t. They played their hand a little too openly.

Sidney Powell wants the Dominion lawsuit against her dismissed because "no reasonable person would conclude that the statements were truly statements of fact. "

I think the counter-argument should be that the US is not well known for an abundance of reasonable persons, as evidenced by the events of 6 January.

The problem with her defense is that the allegations were made in multiple court filings, so she is saying:

  1. She purposely lied to the courts, or,
  2. She doesn’t think the courts are reasonable and were stupid enough to buy her arguments

:grimacing:

Purposely lying to the courts only gets you disbarred (I should hope - but Texas?). She’s facing that plus bankruptcy in the Dominion case.

Senator John Cornyn is whining that the Biden administration is too worried about humane treatment of immigrants.

The District of Columbia can’t be a state because it doesn’t have mines (probably true, though irrelevant) or car dealerships (false).

Mike Rounds, meanwhile, is saying the quiet part loud; DC can’t be a state because too many Democrats live there.

He’s not entirely wrong. Yes, the push for statehood for DC is largely to make the Senate look more like the country as a whole, as opposed to the current setup where it is biased toward the minority. “pass a left-wing agenda” is a bit harsh. Not everything not from the Republican Party is “left-wing”. This absolutely smacks of the 90s, when Gingrich and his ilk used the word “liberal” as a pejorative.

If the Republicans are complaining that they’re being disadvantaged by the number of people who don’t vote for them, they could always start presenting policies that appeal to more people. It’s what they tell Democrats to do all the time, after all.

They might even get Canadians to self identify as ‘Republicans’!

Montana’s governor cited and fined for trapping and shooting a wolf without completing the proper forms ahead of time.

Fuck that bastard with a poisonous cactus. Several times. There is a place reserved for him in hell. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

But wolves are scary.

Where’s that like button?
