NEW Stupid Republican Idea of the Day (Part 1)

Because a Catholic priest says Democrats are godless and going to hell, and you wouldn’t want THAT to happen!

Hell is all, like, ‘Oh HELL no! Trump and his enablers aren’t getting in here! We saw what they did to our friends in the GOP!’

Where do you go when you are cast out of hell?

The Republican party.

Interesting. I wasn’t able to reach Fr. Altman to learn if he intended to refuse the Sacraments to Catholic Democrats who are committed to remaining (and voting for) Democrats. Nor was I able to reach the communications director for the Diocese of LaCrosse to learn if the bishop had any thoughts on the content of the video (that he was authorized to share).

I DID learn that the bishop of Tyler, Texas endorses Father Altman’s comments.

Does anyone know if this kind of overt politicking is common elsewhere in the Catholic regions of the world?*

*I don’t consider the fact that a Jesuit priest gave an invocation to close the DNC to be an example of overt politicking. I’m curious to know whether priests in France, Colombia, Portugal, the Philippines, and elsewhere speak from the pulpit to their congregants this way.

I wonder what the Vatican has to say about that. What would Pope Francis have to say? Do Catholic priests get disciplined for stuff like this?

I’m not devoting any brain cells to watching/listening that screed. I’m just happy his church/congregation is going to start paying proper income and property taxes.

I think it’s fascinating the “Christian” claim while disavowing all of Christ’s teachings and actions. The shame, self-loathing and resignation to an eternity damned to hell must be tearing him/them apart.

I have a brother and a sister who still embrace the faith. I’ve asked them for any thoughts they’d like to share with me.

Point of information - it is a Wisconsin priest, although the video was produced by someone in MN.

Well, since the Catholic church is now admitting that they’re a political entity, they’ll eagerly renounce their tax-exempt status, no?

Nope, they missed one. It should read “Bill Gates’ vaccine”, as it’s possessive, not adjectival.

Should be “Bill Gates’s” vaccine, because the proper noun Gates is singular.

There’s some debate on which is correct, according to the technical writers’ list I am on. Or maybe that’s how to pluralize nouns that end in ‘s’.

It’s been a long day…

I was cutting them some slack – that they probably don’t deserve – for thinking of it as a brand: “the Bill Gates vaccine.”

Maybe it’s a vaccine against Bill Gates.

If you’re going to run a dictatorship, you’re going to want to do some purges. And generally you want to offer some sort of excuse or other for the purging you’ll be doing.

“SPIES!!1!!!” is as good an excuse as any other; in fact it’s time-honored.

“Nurse! Don’t give me any of that damn Bill Gates’ vaccine!”
“Not to worry honey - this is the one made by doctors and medical researchers.”
“Oh! Well, fine then, not a problem”

But, see, in that case you definitely would NOT use an apostrophe.

When in doubt, go with Mr Rogers.

The majority of the California Senate Republicans are under quarantine due to coming in contact with a member who tested positive. But that didn’t prevent the Minority Leader from attending a religious rally at the Capitol building. Without a mask.

Talk about making a metaphorical headline from the past a literal one for today!
