Why would you want the only Dem who can win a statewide race in WV to be primaried? He might not be a reliable vote for Democratic legislative priorities, but he contributes to keeping McConnell from being Senate Majority Leader. A Republican who defeated a more Democratic Democrat would not do that.

Our current strategy with regards to the supreme Court managed to get roe versus Wade overturned.
There were a couple close Senate races in 2020 that Democrats were hoping to win, but didn’t, such as Susan Collins’ seat. So the plan was to get 51-52 democratic senators and not beholden to the whims of Manchin and Sinema. Even just 2 more who were ok with carving out or eliminating the fillibuster and a lot could have been passed.
The solution isn’t to punish Manchin, it’s to elect more liberal Senators. (More liberal than Manchin/Sinema, at least) A tie is a whole lot better than being 49-51. As @Gorsnak said, it means Democratic judges are getting approved, it means some things can and have passed the Senate. How much do you think a Republican controlled Senate would have done?
