NEW Stupid Republican Idea of the Day (Part 2)

Every sperm is sacred
Every sperm is great
If a sperm is wasted,
God gets quite irate.

Let the heathen spill theirs
On the dusty ground
God shall make them pay for
Each sperm that can’t be found.

Python was correct historically, of course. Many societies had something akin to the Sin of Onan.

But there does seem to be less emphasis in modern times (in western culture, anyway) on working toward making sure every sperm results in a person. This could reflect greater knowledge of science (you’d never be able to harvest enough human eggs), or it could reflect greater commitment to the philosophy that all blame for lack of a “domestic supply of infants” must be laid at the feet (or wombs) of females.

Pre-modern societies had no idea that human egg cells existed, or that an ejaculation contains hundreds of millions of sperm cells. Whatever ideas they had about the relationship between a man’s “seed” and a human life weren’t remotely grounded in reality.

Sounds like someone spent some time fucking horses, for science!

Life begins with the third White Claw.

A tradition being carried on today in many disciplines the Republican party considers.

Where do these guys stand on fertilized embryos? I’m not an expert, but I understand that often more than one is implanted in the hope that one “takes.” What about destruction of frozen embryos? I thought about starting a new thread for this, but I’m weary…

I have a relative who I’d describe as “highly Catholic”. She had IVF treatment and ended up with like 6 embryos, but only used 3. She was unwilling to destroy the remaining ones, but at the same time didn’t want more kids. So instead she just ran out the clock (she’s in her late 40s, early 50s now) in order to not have to make a decision. She’ll probably keep paying for the cold storage until she dies, and then the moral burden of destroying the embryos will be on someone else. Problem solved!

Also, aside from the debate as to “when life begins” the idea that human life is sacred and deserving of protection is essentially a religious one.

There are lots of good secular reasons for a society to protect the lives of its citizens, such as enabling people to live and work closely together without fear, but, speaking for myself, I don’t see those reasons as being applicable to embryos and fetuses.

Not to mention that our society has never viewed the “sanctity” of human life as an absolute. But the whole “when life begins” debate is essentially a religious debate and meaningless to someone that doesn’t believe human life is in any way sacred or miraculous.

Greg Abbott is being Greg Abbott

As on-brand as this seems for Abbott, this appears to be a troll post;

He’s also a 9/11 first responder and did six tours in Afghanistan and Iraq who earned several Purple Hearts for “hacking”, was a POW for a month, has only one brother who is gay and died in Iraq along with his mom, testified against Tom Cotton at his court-martial, survived a stroke, had a liver transplant (his second one!) last week, was a friend of Robin Williams, and this is his second nephew to die in a mass shooting despite having only the one dead gay brother (who was personally gay-bashed by former WWE Superstar Bubba Ray Dudley). Also, he’s black and has black kids, even though his Facebook profile picture is of a white guy with a white boy. And the NFL Shop was late delivering the jersey that his dead father was going to be buried in.

Some people get off on writing themselves into public tragedies, it seems.

Did Rodell Vereen write it?

(The story sticks in my mind not only because the man got caught having sex with the SAME HORSE TWICE but because Jon Stewart pondered that maybe the truth was simply that it was the “world’s most alluring horse”.)

I saw that one and – as horrible as Abbott truly is – that immediately pinged my BS meter. “People get hurt and disappear all the time”? What is this, some straight-to-video mobster film?

Yep. It was actually believable until the threatening part. Which isn’t to say if the first part is true they wouldn’t be harassed (or possibly worse even though that’s not as common) by lawn forcement, it’s just it wouldn’t start with such a blatant threat.

Ah is fake

Punchline to an old joke: Life begins when the kids move out and the dog dies.

Some folks like to play the field, others are monoequous.

Uh-oh, if it’s not reined in the thread is in danger of galloping away from its mane purpose. I vote neigh.
