Great use of taxpayers’ money. Republican fiscal responsibility, ladies and germs.
It just made him more powerful.
Who the hell is this – Criswell’s love child?
“Future events like these will affect us- - in the future!”
If the mermaid is dark-skinned, she is supposed to have a little appendage arching out from the middle of her forehead, with a bioluminescent bulb on the tip.
Also, Prince Eric should mate with her by biting her abdomen and fusing himself to her circulatory system, gradually atrophying over the course of several years until he becomes nothing more than a pair of testes to auto-fertilize her eggs.
I believe that among deep sea fish that’s known as “traditional family values”.
Better than the Republican fish-cal values.
I liked the tweet that noted that the live-action Ariel seems to have the tail of a mahi-mahi, not a cod. More wokeness!
How will we know it has happened?
To quote him:
Yeah, like the Humpback Anglerfish:
or the Pelican Eel
or…the Stoplight Loosejaw
actually, if The Little Mermaid were based on Deep Sea fish, she’d likely have long needle-like teeth and be bioluminescent (which would be cool). But mermaids seem to be shallow-water dwellers, which means all bets are off.
Myself, I’ve long wondered if Ariel and her kin really ought to be like Lovecraft’s Deep Ones from The Shadow over Innsmouth
In the news around here last night, and this morning on the Maddowblog – De Santis apparently sent fifty immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard, claiming that Massachusetts deserved them as a result of their “open border” policies.
To say that this is an election-year stunt is to state the obvious. As anyone who has arranged any kind of flights like this knows, shipping people to the Boston area is one thing, but getting them to the Vineyard takes extra effort.
As the articles cited above make abundantly clear, there’s really no rationale for this, and the given reasons are absurd. This is poaturing, and nothing more.
That doesn’t help the fifty immigrants, who had been lied to and told there would be a reception and jobs for them. The Vineyard folks responded beautifully, arranging facilities and shelter for them all, even though they were totally unprepared for this sudden and unannounced onslaught.
What’s ironic is that this would probably have been particularly welcome i the Vineyard if it had been earlier in the summer – they’ve been having problems finding enough workers at the resorts.
Jeff Jacoby, the Boston Globe’s resident conservative columnist, just had a piece in the paper recently saying that busing immigrants to New England really isn’t a punishment for anyone, and Abbott and DeSantis ought to stop doing it.
And next, the comfy chair!
The states and/or local aid organizations do incur significant costs to shelter and feed the victims of these stunts. To their credit, every time this happens the people at the destination have taken care of the victims. Imagine if Canadians were sneaking into Martha’s Vineyard illegally and the Vineyard sent them to Texas. They’d receive a much different welcome.
Seriously. What’s the biological rationale for a mermaid having red hair? Or any hair, for that matter? Or needing a bra? Seems like the neutral buoyancy of living underwater would keep your breasts from sagging or bouncing around too much.
Why would a fish have breasts to begin with?
heavens to betsy, some people spend way too much time contemplating fictional characters.
personally, my very limited thinking on mermaids are that they are marine mammals not fish. therefore to answer silenus, they need mammary glands to nurse young.
This made me realize something. You know why Ariel is attracted to Eric? Because she realized that he is an 'alibut.
To lure sailors to their doom. Duh!
On a slightly more serious side, it’s claimed that manatees and dugongs have prominent breasts, and this is the reason for their being called “sea cows” and for being cited as the inspiration for mermaids.
I’ve never seen, however, anything that looks like a breast on a photo of an actual manatee or dugong, even on ones that are supposed to illustrate this feature.
This is a balloon, and doesn’t count:
Can’t find any here
The sketch in here (scroll way down) sorta seems to suggest breasts, but they’re not significant, and, still, it ain’t a photograph
None of the pictures here show anything
Or these drawings
If this shows a young manatee suckling at a manatee breast, then it’s in a very weird place and the sketch in the Snopes article is misleading
In an amazingly smooth segue…Doper pilots: Is the airport on Martha’s Vineyard staffed 24/7? Can they refuse landing permission to any aircraft?
ETA: Disregard the first question, as the plane from Texas landed in the middle of the afternoon. The second question still stands.
Matt admits on twitter hes trolling.
