NEW Stupid Republican Idea of the Day (Part 2)

Actually at the press conference Rep. Comer very made it clear they are out to get the President:

…this is no longer the Hunter Biden investigation. This is the Joe Biden investigation. ”

Madison Cawthorn is still a member of Congress until January, but he has moved out of his offices and isn’t responding to constituents’ calls.

Took his ball and went home. That’ll show 'em.

Isn’t that an actual federal crime to not perform the duties of one’s office? Nonfeasance in office, perhaps?

I was wondering how this worked, so I looked it up. South Dakota has 35 legislative districts and they each elect two representatives. Interesting method. District 27 encompasses a goodly portion of the southwest part of the state, including Badlands National Park.

Indeed, something of that nature crossed my mind, meanwhile (from article):

Checked out the intrawebz for another photo just out of curiosity if that was the stupidest tat on earth, but that seems to be the only photo of buddy I can find.
His smile seems nice.
Classy operator, too - I often use this line in bathroom stalls, too:

Sure - they usually, at first, give my actual height the once-over…

And in case there might be any quibbles about his…je ne sais quoi?..

What a prince. And I’m sure also “totes consench”, as Amy Schumer’d say.

Former aide to Mitch McConnell, Rand Paul and Ron Paul convicted of transferring Russian funds into individual 1 election campaign funds. The guy was pardoned by individual 1 on his way out the door for other crimes.

I suppose he could front the defense that not doing the job at all is preferable to doing it badly.

This is a new one on me, but apparently it has been suggested before…

As state lawmakers gear up for the legislative session in January, one North Texas Republican is making a long-shot push to dissolve the city of Austin.

State Rep. Jared Patterson, R-Frisco, filed House Bill 714 and House Joint Resolution 50 on Tuesday, proposing a new “District of Austin” that would replace Texas’ capital city as of Jan. 1, 2024. The government of the district would directly report any new actions to the lieutenant governor and speaker of the House of Representatives.

My bold.

Let’s just give Greg Abbott control over everything, okay?

“Elected officials in Austin have failed their city,” Patterson, one of the most conservative members of the House, said on Twitter. “Record high taxes and crime are pushing folks out of the city, and their San Francisco wannabe policies force the state to come over the top on legislation each session.”

Matt Rinaldi, the chair of the Texas Republican Party, quickly endorsed the idea: “Good idea.”

Ri-i-i-ght.

But others were quick to criticize the proposal, which is extremely unlikely to be passed or even get a hearing next session. Republicans have floated similar ideas before, but they’ve gone nowhere.

“This brazen attack on #LocalControl is not only an attempt to take away the will of the voters in Austin, but is a prime example of the waste of time and resources that occurs every session,” tweeted Dallas City Councilman Adam Bazaldua. “Instead of focusing on legislation to improve the lives of Texans, we get games …”

My bold.

Playing games while wasting time and resources instead of focusing on legislation is the Republican way now.

And what are those taxes paying for? Are the people who are paying them happy with the level of services provided? If so, the TX Legislature should fuck off (they should in general, but also in particular for this case).

Legally or chemically?

Whichever gets the job done first, they’re cool with it.

Cf the “foot found in Yellowstone” thread.

Las Vegas Councilwoman, who lost her race for state treasurer, did not take kindly to a fellow Republican endorsing her Democratic opponent.

I expected the GOP of today to take the lowest road possible, even more so if it’s the Texas GOP, but this just takes childish pettiness to a multi-digit exponential…even allowing for the churlishness of penning off-the-wall legislation just to earn ( more ) points with the RWNJ crowd.

I mean, were the Texas MAGAbots holding siege of Patterson’s office if he doesn’t throw some inflammatory rhetoric out there every other day. I just never figured that their MAGA support was never anything other than absolute to the point they needed fresh hunks of red meat thrown their way daily.

San Francisco wannabe”. Real classy language in official legislation. Sheesh.

Marge Greene calls for impeachment of Merrick Garland and for the Republicans in Congress to make sure that the Special Counsel doesn’t get paid.

Wonderful! I’m looking forward to watching the likes of Greene and Gaetz let their freak flags fly for all to see.

“My corrupt leader may be held accountable! Impeach that man, quick!”
Republicans are pathetic.

I’m starting to wonder if there’s a possibility of Hakeem Jeffries winding up as Speaker if the GOP vote splits and they can’t muster enough votes for McCarthy to come out on top.

AIUI, no. It takes a majority of the (voting?) House members to elect the Speaker. It is conceivable that a moderate/conservative Dem (no idea who) could get GOP support (and all the Dems) and become Speaker. I just don’t see Jeffries as that someone.
