On the occasions where I do ask someone to define CRT, that’s usually where I’m headed with it. Even if they have a basic idea about it, more often than not, what they don’t realize is that it’s something most people will never be exposed to in a school setting, or if they are, it’ll be well into their college career. Your 9 year old might be taught that racism is bad. They are not being taught critical race theory.
But, even if what the person thought was true, why is it a bad thing for your kid to be taught that racism is bad? That’s the part I don’t get. I’m equally confused as to why the right seems to think ‘woke’ is an insult.
The reason they’ll tell you is that they don’t want their kids to “feel bad” because they’re white. What they really want is to be able to indoctrinate their kids with racism without outside influence. You have to be carefully taught.
Because that means that Grandma and Grandpa are bad, and Daddy, too, and maybe even Mommy…you know, the people who raised me. And if they’re bad, then maybe I’m bad, too, and that is an intolerable idea!
I went for the ultra package this time, so nothing’s been mailed yet. I believe we’re still waiting on the clamshell covers.
I shouldn’t have bought it, but, damnit, I also couldn’t resist. I got the hardback, paperback, backer t-shirt, and enamel pins on the first kickstarter.
I got the Kindle version as well as the hardcover, but that doesn’t display well on my Fire, and the publisher has acknowledged the problem and is seeking a fix for it, last I heard.
This is the second one we’ve see blaming this on Pete Buttigieg. What exactly is it they think the Secretary of Transportation does? Do they think he’s down there every morning booting up the FAA servers?
And/or, they don’t want their kids getting the notion that their parents might be complicit in systems that perpetuate anti-black pro-white outcomes. They don’t want a teacher suggesting thay they (the parents) are doing something wrong. If little Suzie comes home and asks “why are there no black people in our neighborhood,” well now the teacher is implicating the parents through their kids in a way that many are not comfortable with.
And, to be honest, I get it. Some 20-something teacher who thinks they know about the world is encouraging my kids to judge me? Where do they get off!?!?
A lot of “anti-woke” emotion is an unexamined expression of “I don’t want to change, and I reject the idea that a bunch of academics and activists know me better than I know myself.”
Virginia Republicans want to register pregnant women. They claim that it’s so that pregnant women can drive alone in the HOV lanes, but we know the real reason.
