NEW Stupid Republican Idea of the Day (Part 2)

This is a very silly thing for the judge to say. Of course he can say those things and then complain about it. There’s nothing to stop him, is there?

Unless you’re being sarcastic…
I see that as the judge saying to Trump: Your blatant and dumb bullshit don’t fly with me. Respect to Judge Reality.

Judge Lewis A. Kaplan in Manhattan said the civil trial on claims against Trump by a longtime columnist, E. Jean Carroll, will begin as scheduled on April 25

I wonder if it’s worth starting a new thread about this specific trial, seeing as it’s starting in about a week, before the other trials for the other Trump crimes…

If you started one, I would participate in it, for what that’s worth. Because fuck Donald Trump.

FWIW, I would appreciate someone starting a separate thread on this if discussion about it is anticipated. It’s hard enough for folks to follow along with which case is which without muddling them all into one or two threads.

In the Pit or in P&E?

It’s political… but when things involve the Cheeto Faced Shitgibbon, they often get moved into the pit anyway…

If you’re amenable, I like to give people the benefit of the doubt that the discussion will be at least mostly serious. If it gets out of hand, we can always move it to the Pit. It would be nice if we don’t have to.

Up to you, of course.

Maybe each Trump trial thread should have its own thread in P&E to make it easy to follow, and one Omnibus Trump trial thread in the pit for when pitworthy comments need to be made.

I think that’s largely how it’s already worked out. There are already threads in P&E dedicated to the Jack Smith January 6th investigation, the Jack Smith Mar-A-Lago documents investigation, the Manhattan DA tax fraud/election fraud investigation and trial. There’s also a thread started in February on the Georgia case:

People tend to dump on Trump in the Schadenfreude thread in the Pit and a few other places.

Hopefully this is working well enough. There’s no perfect way to organize discussions on someone so dedicated to criming as Trump is.

The Nicki Minaj Act, because why not?

Right, but I’m wondering if there should be a dedicated Trump trial pit thread, so that Trump trial related snark can be easily found in one place, and it doesn’t clutter up threads that are meant to speak more generally of Republican corruption and incompetence, or even of the more general Trump corruption and incompetence.

Just a thought, but I’m sure if it’s necessary, someone will start it.

That’s what I hope, too.

There should be a dedicated CFEFWSG pit. Not a forum or thread but an actual deep hole in the ground (from which he could not discern his ass) with him in it, and people could come 'round and fling shit at him.

Are you saying that Bud/BL is ok because market research has shown it appeals to the lowest common denominator?

I say that is what is wrong with it.
It appeals to people who don’t like beer.

Taste is subjective, and a very large number of people say that, in their subjective opinion, it is okay.

To think something is bad because other people like it and you don’t is the definition of snobbery.

There are things that are bad, like cyanide or bleach. Those should be discouraged from consumption.

And there are things that are unhealthy, but Budweiser isn’t inherently any more unhealthy than any other beer.

It appeals to people who want something cheap to give them a buzz.

I don’t like it either, that doesn’t make it bad. It just means that it’s something that I don’t like, like mayonnaise.

However, to tie it back to the thread, it does seem as though it is in fact Republicans who are more likely to enjoy it so maybe there is something to call them stupid about.

It’s ok because a lot of people seem to like it, and it doesn’t hurt anybody else if they do

If that equals ‘people who don’t like beer’, so what? I’m not losing out if they drink it, and they seem to enjoy their experience. People finding personal enjoyment in different and unique ways is great

Where I do care about things: they want to weaponize beer drinking just to be jerks. For a political party that supposedly espouses personal choice/responsibility, they do a lot of minding of other people’s business

Or at least they’re the most vocal about it

Probably (who can say in America these days?) most Bud Light drinkers aren’t especially bigoted and don’t associate an advertising campaign with politics, but idiotic loudmouth assholes tend to dominate the conversation

I’m hearing and seeing Eric Idle. In a canoe with one of those Australian flappy hats with corks dangling from the brim.

Is there any way to see how much this “boycott” actually impacted sales? That’d give a decent figure on how many are bigotted enough to give up their buzz water for identity politics.

A/H’s reaction is hard to gauge, it’s not like they had any formal relationship to terminate, so their actions have been limited to press releases.

At the same time, it’s not just a boycott, there have been death threats and bomb threats. Those who decry the “cancel culture” of the left, take note.

As a final interesting point, this has caused it to be shown how much A/H supports the right in political donations, and just how many different brands they make in your local grocery store’s beer aisle, so they may find a bigger hit to their sales from those on the left of the spectrum looking into alternatives for their imbibing pleasures.

If they want something cheap, they’ll reach for the Keystone Light version of Bud Light. It’s sold in 30 packs for a few dollars. We joke it is the state flower of Idaho since the cans are everywhere along Forest Service roads. All those ATV and SxS riders can’t be bothered to pack it out, and you cannot go riding without Keystone to fuel your adventures!

Keystone is made by Coors, so it’s the poor man’s version of Coors Light. Both of which (Coors and Keystone) I cannot tolerate. My mainstream domestic beer of choice is the King of Beers, Budweiser.
