Florida Republicans pass school bills on pronouns, diversity
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida Republicans on Wednesday approved bills to ban diversity programs in colleges and prevent students and teachers from being required to use pronouns that don’t correspond to someone’s sex, building on top priorities of Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis.
The two proposals were given final passage by the Republican supermajorities in the House and Senate. DeSantis is expected to sign the bills into law.
Just more child labor for the maw of Capitalism. Sorry, kid. Your parents died and you get SS Survivor Benefits? Off to the mines with you! What’s that? You’re blind and disabled and 97? Tough noogies.
Okay, the rest of that, I can kind of see how he thought it might work, but did he really think people would hear “Ramaswamy”, and not clue in to his cultural heritage?
Plausible deniability so he can have it suggested he has taken up evangelical Christianity
I’ve known a lot of Indian immigrants and their children for whom that’s not even false
Of course, that still leaves the rampant racism among the Republican base, but somehow some folks delude themselves into thinking they’ll be considered the ‘good’ kind of non-white. Or at least good enough to be elected to high office not realizing, at most, be used as the token example of how the base can’t “really” be racist if he’s around.
It takes surprisingly little to make that crowd ignore some of their prejudices! Here in NC, our lt. governor has been attacking the Civil Rights Movement. He seems to be quite popular with white conservative people. >.<
