NEW Stupid Republican Idea of the Day (Part 2)

And don’t forget Ivanka, waiting in the wings for her opportunity. Ridiculous? Sure, but that’s what they said about her father.

Banning 28 MATH textbooks? What the hell was in them to cause them to blame CRT? “Ten African-American students and twelve students of European ancestry go into a classroom. How many students are there altogether?”

The question is fine, but if the answer isn’t 18 2/3 then it’s in violation of Florida policies.

Where are you getting the extra ⅔?

Oops, sorry. For some reason was thinking 2/3 instead of 3/5. I blame my ignorance on being Canadian.

Maybe that new Florida math is already rubbing off on us.

I find your ideas intriguing and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

You could watch the documentary.

Somebody hasn’t even learned to count. Since the link I posted yesterday is from Raw Story, which typically posts only abbreviated stories, I googled for more. Many news outlets have picked up on the story.

Several say 28 books. One says 42 books. Several others say 54 books are banned. I guess this must be an on-going process.

Nobody from the Florida DOE is saying exactly why these books are banned. They say it’s because of Critical Race Theory, or Common Core, or SEL, but nobody has pointed out any specific items in any of the books. It’s a mystery. It’s secret!

ETA: The tweet quoted above includes the entire press release from the Florida DOE. Here it is:

The question, “Timmy has 8 apples. After he gives enough apples to Laquanda to make up for historical and contemporary systemic racism, how many apples does Timmy have left?”

Use a numberline and show your work.

Something doesn’t add up.
Could it be the GOP is engaging in subtraction culture?

Here is the press release from Florida DOE

TItled: “Florida Rejects Publishers’ Attempts to Indoctrinate Students”

But hey, they know the correct use of an apostrophe!

Notice also Florida’s standard for textbooks is called B.E.S.T., which stands for Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking.

The very phrase smacks of thought-policing.

Just making that s%@& up so they can dominate the news cycle with their code words for hate. Triggering their sheeple who see CRT or Common Core and don’t have a clue what they mean [CRT used to be cathode ray tube - but whatever]. They’d be burning the books if one of the girls in a problem was named Hillary - or a boy named Sue.

Multiple attempts to sow political division.

It’s the latest Republican political calculus.

I assume that uses the (white) power rule.

This probably belongs more in the ‘Republicans are Evil’ thread, but I think it’s useful to post it here, too.

People need to be aware of this crap.

People have been indoctrinated to believe that this is proper politicking.
