“I would sell you a pardon (haven’t you always wanted a pardon?”
“At the ranch, people could pay $20-40 to sleep in their cars”
Oh my god, have we finally found the Perfect Grift?
Well, you’re already down south for the winter, might as well go see the (shit) show while you’re there…
You’ve just described every Jam Band festival in the country.
Two hundred quatloos says this turns into a few truckers dicking around in the parking lot of an abandoned coal mine in West Virginia with a couple hundred scared white Boomers hawking Trump t-shirts while someone shouts into a bullhorn about the Jews.
Maybe if they’re lucky Ted Nugent will show up and pose for selfies for $20 a pop.
Other truckers, whose bosses tell them that this load goes to NYC, will choose to receive their paychecks.
Do gold patent leather shoes really reflect up?
A lot of truckers are independent contractors. But trucking is a business that operates on very slim margins as operating costs are high. If some truckers decide they don’t want to deliver on the most lucrative supply runs, others will definitely step into the gap.
Couldn’t charges be filed for refusing to deliver items based on a political belief? Kind of like taking a city hostage? I know it’s not that extreme.
You can’t force someone to do business with you. And the issue here isn’t the suppliers but the haulers. Presumably if the suppliers have existing contracts with the haulers or haulage companies they could sue, and purchasers could sue suppliers where actual breach of contract occurs, but in both cases it would likely cost more to sue than it would be worth and would be easier just to find other sources.
This.
Dan
The truckers will find out how many heavy tow tractors there are in the NYC area (a lot), the state and local pilice aren’t as polite as the Canadians, and pulling a gun will also educate them about NY gun laws.
Also, I rather doubt all truckers are trumpies.
Yeah, this is what annoyed me about the Convoy guys here in Ottawa. Everyone kept saying, “Oh, it’s impossible to tow these trucks if they’ve set the airbrakes!”, and I kept saying, “That should be, ‘It’s impossible to tow them without damaging them…’”
Give me a good bulldozer and a shitton of chains, and I’d have towed every one of those bastards!
Although, really, I probably only would have towed one. Those guys mostly owned their own trucks, and those things are expensive. After they’d seen me drag the first one down Elgin Street, screeching and sparking the whole way, I’m pretty sure they’d have started moving the trucks themselves.
Will a tow truck meant for pulling semi tractors be equipped with a way to pump the brakes back up? Can the brakes be manually released (non-destructively) from the outside? If it were really a problem, do the police have the authority to pop locks or break windows so the tow drivers can get inside and release the brakes?
I have to think truck’s air brake systems fail from time to time, so I’d assume there’s a way to get them moving again without dragging them down the street.
But, yeah, since most of these people are going to be owner/operators, they might play chicken with the tow truck convoy heading towards them, but they’re probably not interested in having their vary expensive investment towed away. Similarly, it’s probably safe to assume anyone that works for someone else will lose their job, especially if they lose their employer’s truck in the process.
As I understand it, the air brakes are designed to fail to the braking state, so the truckers disable the air pressure source, and the air brakes lock down. I’d assume that any real truck towing company would have some means for fixing this, otherwise we’d eventually have immobile trucks blocking every highway in the world, but I think the suspicion was that the tow truck drivers would be on the Convoyer’s side, and find excuses for why they couldn’t tow the trucks.
Hence my plan for me and a bulldozer.
Yes, according to this site:
How To Manually Release Air Brakes Correctly With 4 Easy Steps (bryansgarage.com)
More likely they will be held in pristine condition and only taken out on very special occasions if at all so that they maintain their “value”. So the marks won’t know whether they are crap or not that they’re crap.
Cop: “Tow them in the next 5 minutes or your company never gets another tow job from the city.”
Tow truck driver: “Yes, sir!”
I swear, these people don’t have the brains of a labradoodle. My feeds today have been full of “Every truck stop in NYC is barren!” or “NYC brought to its knees for Trump!”
In case that doesn’t work, I’m pretty sure the New York National Guard has artillery.
