@Atamasama, if you used that phrase, I could believe that you genuinely mistakenly thought it could mean something innocuous. But not Watters. Never.
Jason Miller, a senior (ShitGibbon) campaign advisor …credited Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s recent endorsement of (ShitGibbon) for the latest surge in the stock market.
It was on a legitimate news source. Really, it was, I swear.
And when Trump told the Proud Boys to “stand back and stand by” he was just telling them to relax and take it easy.
Right?
Repeating it for people who may have missed it.
AND joking about her getting raped.
This kind of BS equivocation is how we wind up with Snopes calling it “false” that Trump said the Charlottesville Nazis were very fine people.
YOU, yourself said “Don’t get me wrong, the “wink, wink” joking stuff with a nod to rape is disturbing and unacceptable in itself.”
These scum-suckers are experts at saying things that are obviously disgusting, and can be “spun” as “Oh goodness, we didn’t mean THAT!” < wink wink, nod nod >
Calling that for what it fucking is, is not lying.
I’m not denying that there was an implied rape joke. I’m denying that it’s what was explicitly said. There is a difference. If they were clearly making a suggestion she was going to get raped it would be worse.
I’m not excusing any of it. Even what they were explicitly saying was fucked up.
You’re coming across as defending the “wink wink, nod not” that these filth are spewing. It’s not a good look.
For what it’s worth, I agree with your interpretation of the statement.
Show me defending it rather than calling it disgusting and unacceptable.
By going on about how it was not explicitly said, and therefore people are “lying” about it, you give a veneer of acceptability to the scummy tactic of the dog whistle.
Call it for what it is. Don’t excuse it because they were not explicit. It’s a tactic. And you’re apparently willing to accept the tactic.
No. Just call it for what it is.
That’s exactly what I did, rather than misstate what happened.
I know it’s the Pit and it’s the place to rant about fucked up shit, but even here we should try to give the straight dope about what’s going on. And that’s what I did.
I mean, when people pointed out that the JD Vance jizz cups were a hoax, or that the couch story was a joke, none of that was defending MAGA or trying to clear up Vance’s name. It was being factual even though the misinformation was against someone who deserved it.
Watters is a piece of shit and if he suddenly contracted an illness that prevented him from ever saying another word I’d be thrilled. The whole Fox News apparatus is a stain on the country. That doesn’t mean I need to nod and agree if someone is misconstruing something he or anyone else over there is saying or doing,
As I said, what they are actually doing is bad enough, just like what MAGA and Vance are doing is bad enough.
Remember that the next time you call me a liar.
To sum up: Watters did not mean that the JCoS would literally sexually assault Harris.
Watters meant that they would metaphorically sexually assault Harris.
And the reason that he deliberately chose and used - twice - this metaphor is because he is a spectacularly terrible person.
We all in agreement now?
I’m a big fan of the metaphysical poets.
John Donne, for example, has a poem, “The Flea” in which he attempts to argue his case that as both himself and his young lady have been bitten by the same flea (romance in the 1600s was a little more gritty than today) that therefore their relationship had already been consumated, and he should get a chance of his own.
It is a pretty silly idea, but masterfully written.
If only those idiots could express their weird ideas as masterfully as Mr. Donne, the world would be a much, much better place.
I’m not sure their audiences would go for something so complex. Some weird ideas are just easier said than Donne.
I agree with what you said 100%, thank you for a great summation.
There is zero reason to give the benefit of the doubt to trash like Watters. As noted upthread, he was all ready with his cutesy ‘not that way’ disclaimer. They probably went so far as to rehearse that bit. Fuck that guy. I hope he gets poison ivy in his urethra.
But not that way.
It’s Jessie Watters. The context is that if he says something that can have more than one meaning, Jessie Watters means whichever one is worse.
