NEW Stupid Republican Idea of the Day (Part 3)

The right, again, sends out intimidating text messages to voters. This time implying that voting from college will land you in jail.

This time, they targeted thousands of college aged kids with the text: “WARNING: Violating WI Statutes 12.13 & 6.18 may result in fines up to $10,000 or 3.5 years in prison” … “Don’t vote in a state where you’re not eligible"

Luckily, for us at least, “Among the text’s recipients were young staff members at the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin, the letter said. A staff member at Democracy Docket, a voting rights news website founded by the Democratic election lawyer Marc Elias, also received a text”

The lawsuit around this cites a case where a group targeted black populations with robocalls saying “Mail-in voting sounds great, but did you know that if you vote by mail, your personal information will be part of a public database that will be used by police departments to track down old warrants, and be used for credit card companies to collect outstanding debts?” … “The [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] is even pushing to use records for mail-in voting to track people for mandatory vaccines. Don’t be finessed into giving your private information to the man. Stay safe and beware of vote-by-mail.”

They speak ‘’‘jive’‘’! I’m shocked that there’s no mention of hiding from your crackijuana dealer and ‘you baby mama’.

True, and at the lowest rate they charge anyone, i.e. those three in the morning info-ads.

Only for ads submitted by the candidates themselves. They can for ads submitted by a PAC or the candidate’s party, as the quote, directly on the FCC site, in my post 8529 links to.

The misinformation- conspiracy-outrage-action process obviously doesn’t leave much room for new information or fact/checking. And I have to wonder if not spreading the news that he wasn’t in the guide was deliberate for some reason.

If I were the makers of the voters guide I would have included a place for Trump with the simple statement that Trump the Trump campaign did not submit an entry to the guide. Leaving him out entirely was bound to cause controversy.

Speaking of campaigh ads and stupid Republican tricks…

Ron DeSanctimonious’ attempt to gag media gets a literal “it’s the First Amendment, stupid” from a judge.

Yep. In the automotive manuals I worked on years ago, any blank page needed a note that said in big letters: “This page left blank intentionally.” I think this would have done the trick for Oregon: “This page left blank because the candidate is a buffoon.”

Or “This page left blank because Trump could not afford the $3500 fee, or could not obtain 500 signatures. Or he just forgot and wandered off somewhere to listen to music.”

I learned to my surprise that the classic poodle cut—hindquarters cut close, with tufts of fur left over the knees and tail—is not a froofy salon 'do, as one may think. Instead, it’s a practical cut for hunting dogs to swim in water to catch birds. The cut makes it easier for the dog to swim, except where it leaves fur to protect the vital organs and joints from cold water.

Also mentioned in that article:

Walker’s granting of the restraining order comes less than a week after Wilson resigned from his post. In a letter obtained by the Tampa Bay Times and Miami Herald, Wilson wrote that “a man is nothing without his conscience,” adding that “it has become clear in recent days that I cannot join you on the road that lies before the agency.”

And following the link in that quote:

Wilson, whose exit from the Department of Health was previously reported by the Herald/Times, declined to comment through his attorney. Wilson, who had served as the agency’s general counsel since 2022, noted in his letter that he had worked for the state for 14 years.

In his resignation letter, Wilson lamented the circumstances that made him feel like he could no longer work for the Department of Health.

I’ve worked for my state for 10 years now, and I am so glad we do not have a Republican governor forcing us to do stupid shit and making me hate what I do. And all signs are that we will still not have a Republican governor after this election, which is a huge relief. It has been almost 40 years since Washington State has been run by a Republican, and it doesn’t look like we will have another one any time soon.

If it happens any time before I retire, I hope it is in a post-MAGA world where Republicans are back to being the normal kind of shitty and not batshit insane Qanon “space lasers and elementary school sex change” shitty.

Do you have any student debt?

Nope! I went to community college and paid in full each term for as long as I could afford it (which wasn’t long enough to graduate).

The AG of Missouri is once again suing the FDA over mifepristone.

Among his arguments is that declining teen pregnancy rates may harm the state by reducing federal funding or even losing a seat in Congress.

Link is to a news report that links to the lawsuit. Relevant part starts at the bottom of page 189.

He’s literally arguing in favor of teen pregnancy?!

Indeed.

If he’s worried about loss of population, I know just the solution for his problems, but Orange Jesus might not be happy about it.

He would have to have it out with our likely new governor, whose primary campaign was all about “securing our southern border”.

You know, with Arkansas.

No, I was alluding to Miller, but this was someone else.

Who else remembers when conservatives assured us that Jesus Jesus was definitely not happy about teen pregnancy rates?

Republicans have been in favor of teen pregnancy for a while now. Especially if they get to be the ones impregnating them.
