"First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”
by German Lutheran pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984).
And Jesus wept.
Intolerant rhetoric – the kind we always hear from those pandering to social conservatives – puts poison – drop by drop – into the water we drink, the air we breathe, and the environment in which we live.
Which may not harm most of us, but it creates profoundly increased risk to vulnerable communities.
And for what? Money and power. Disgusting.
Also: great Isaac Asimov quote
"Imagine the people who believe such things and who are not ashamed to ignore, totally, all the patient findings of thinking minds through all the centuries since the Bible was written. And it is these ignorant people, the most uneducated, the most unimaginative, the most unthinking among us, who would make themselves the guides and leaders of us all; who would force their feeble and childish beliefs on us; who would invade our schools and libraries and homes. I personally resent it bitterly.”
–Isaac Asimov
I’d like to see one of these shitbags referred to as the “Flaming asshole from the great state of Texas” on the Floor of one of the houses of Congress, live on C-SPAN.
The RW ethos is that might makes right. Trump mocking disabled NYT reporter, Serge Kovaleski, epitomized this. Punching down is now done both for fun AND for profit.
The RWNJs have made it cool to spit on orphans and homeless people, go sport hunting for illegal aliens and minorities, to subjugate women, and to root for Vladimir Putin (Fer Chrissakes) in his unprovoked war of aggression against Ukraine.
As a lifetime Independent, I was pretty okay with the Republicans being against everything that Democrats stood for. I’m less okay with them now being against everything that, historically, the United States of America stood for.
I am FAR less okay with their totally indecent pursuit of what they cynically call ‘decency.’
Regarding @Smapti 's link to “Erin in the Morning,” I particularly liked this bit:
I’ve been hoping somebody would pull the “Have you no decency?” card for a while, just as Senator Joseph Welch did in the 1954 Army-McCarthy hearings. It needs to be used more.
Boycotting Tesla is illegal?
I didn’t check their twitter feeds, so maybe it’s fake, but I’m guessing it’s not.

[Trump’s] claiming that when he gets back into office he’ll scrap EV mandates imposed by the Biden administration
March 2025
On Monday night, just a couple of months after taking office, Donald Trump has determined that it’s unAmerican for anyone to not own a Tesla electric vehicle. While Joe Biden failed for four years to institute an electric vehicle mandate at the federal level because he never tried, Trump is built different–mostly out of cognitive dissonance.
I’ve always said that’s the true essence of a totalitarian state: Anything not forbidden is mandatory.
Pretty much every government passes laws to ban stuff, or make activities illegal, but it’s mostly the fascists who require you to actively do things. The Nazis wanted every kid to join the Hitler Youth, for example.
Have fun driving your Trump Tesla. That’s not a friendly wish, btw, it’s an order. Have. Fun.
Every couple married in Germany during Hitler’s dictatorship had to buy a copy of Mein Kampf when they got married. He made millions of marks off of it.
