But, I’m guessing, not for their race, but for their behavior.
Well yes.
But we never really expected them to apologize for that, either.
The whole “no longer any need to apologize for being white” is as much bullshit as the DEI boogeyman.
We’re also “allowed” to say Merry Christmas again ![]()
Now that I think about it, I recall the whole ‘apologize for being white’ thing becoming popular at the same time the RW decided that schools were teaching Critical Race Theory to grade school aged kids and teaching them to ‘hate themselves for being white’.
I hope the albatross didn’t have to apologize for being white. I mean, that’s what albatrosses do; look really dorky when they initiate flight, and be white.
I imagine they’re already apologies for human beings. Poor ones, but still.
Last night, Bari Weiss axed a 60 Minutes segment on CECOT, minutes before it was supposed to air, supposedly because nobody from the Trump administration would agree to give a comment on camera. (Left unspoken is that she’s therefore essentially giving Trump veto power over CBS’ news coverage.)
That didn’t stop the Canadian affiliate from putting the segment online.
OK, what is CECOT & why does it matter?
The concentration camp in El Salvador where ICE has been selling brown people with no criminal record to be tortured to death. The place Trump tried to argue they couldn’t possibly remove Kilmar Abrego from. You may remember Kristi Noem posing for a glamor shot in front of innocent prisoners there.
Actually, according to the 60 Minutes story, a team of university researchers proved that the prisoners Noem used as a backdrop were actually Salvadoran gang members, imprisoned by the Salvadoran government, not the mostly innocent Venezuelans the Trump regime had deported without due process. The story reported that human rights groups used the government’s own records to show that only 3% of those deported had any record of committing violent or potentially violent crimes.
Most of the prisoners were tortured, beaten, sexually abused, and subjected to 24 hours of bright light (itself considered a form of torture). The story is sickening, and it is horrific that the US government has done this, and is continuing to do this, to innocent people.
Bari Weiss thought she’d “twitter filed” it away, ne’er to be seen again, eh?
I guess she’s as bad at covering up anti-Trump stories while working for CBS to the same degree as she is bad at cooking up pro-Trump stories while working for Musk.
It is legitimately remarkable how many people in the Trump orbit have managed to fail upwards.
Perhaps one of the life skills they should teach underachievers is how to convincingly engage in abject obeisance and sycophancy. It’s certainly easier and generally more financially rewarding than hard work and talent
Incompetents are more loyal than those with talent or ability, because the incompetent have nothing to fall back on and are compelled to be loyal to the leader. When loyalty is selected for, incompetents move to the front of the line.
They’re being dragged along, riding the orange behemoth’s massive red tie.
They knew who they hired. Bari Weiss is already well known. The goal was to drag CBS’s reputation rightward to fit in with Trump anti-woke/anti-progressive conservatism.
Of course that shift takes their main news vehicle (60 minutes) straight through a cesspool. No route or course correction will save it.
I am currently watching the leaked 60 Minutes story on CECOT, the horrible Salvadoran prison, though I haven’t watched the actual 60 Minutes program in years (perhaps decades). I suspect I’m not the only one. So ironically, by cancelling the story, Bari Weiss might have ensured that more people see the story than had done so otherwise.
This is almost certainly measurably true. Some are saying that “the Streisand effect” phenomenon should be renamed “the Bari Weiss effect.”
All too true (and very well said).
It’s almost certainly true.
60 Minutes might be viewed by a couple million people max on any given week.
They’ll probably exceeded that view count by an order of magnitude at minimum. By pulling this nonsense, they have guaranteed that once any version was released, pirated versions will be available in perpetuity.
