It’s a bit of an ambiguity you frequently get with immigrant families. The first generation to be American vs first generation American-born
On his mother’s side he’s 2nd generation American but 1st generation American-born.
Either way, on average, he’s more of an immigrant than Barack Obama, whose family on his mother’s side have been around for more generations than Trump’s family on his father’s side (they tie on having one non-American born other parent).
