I would hope so. A picture of you and your brother in the bath last week might be a tad weird.
In 1976, when I was 2 years old, my dad took a break from law school and shacked up in a borrowed West Virginia hunting cabin with my mom and me for a couple of weeks. I have a picture hanging in my living room right now of my dad sitting on its ramshackle porch, grinning, a short necked bottle of Bud in one hand and a hunting rifle in the other, and me sitting on his lap, buck naked. The 1970s were a different time.
(No visible genitalia, though. I was a chubby kid).
Miller went on CNN today to try and clear his name.

The entire 20 minutes is worth watching. It’s a glorious trainwreck.

He was saying that having her that long was a court order violation; don’t know if that’s true or not, but it was completely dodging the question and not at all relevant.
His confidence that if the police aren’t investigating him, he must be innocent, that seems like a very poor tactic on his part.
Honestly, the guy isn’t articulate enough that I can tell even what he was arguing. He talks like someone who is sleep-deprived, drunk, or on drugs. Or some combination of those things. I sometimes watch police bodycam video of people being pulled over for DUI and explaining themselves to the cops, and he looks like he came right out of those videos.
He said it wasn’t a big deal because it was part of the public record (which is bullshit; no way a naked child photo is a “public record”, and Tapper confirmed that it was bullshit) and that it was taken “out of context” (but not how it was) and that it was both horrible and not a big deal.
I’m not even going to watch any more. It’s clear that this person is digging a hole for himself in this video. It’s disturbing to watch. It’s easy to believe that this guy is a danger and not fully stable when watching this. And what’s really fucked up is that this is his attempt to do damage control and improve his image; how does he act when he’s not doing that?!

Did you at least make it to Tapper cutting him off because “I’m not done listing the women who’ve accused you of violence”? That was one of the most brutal lines I’ve ever heard from an interviewer.

This is kind of a continuing Stupid Kansas Republican idea, but could also maybe go in the Schadenfreude thread. First, some background. Back in 2019 the Kansas Supreme Court decided that abortion was protected under the state constitution. (That’s not the stupid part.) The state legislature then decided that the solution was an amendment to state constitution banning abortion. And just to make sure it passed, they put it on the ballot in the August 2022 primary rather than in the general election, because primary voters usually trend Republican. Unfortunately SCOTUS decided to overturn Roe v Wade that summer, releasing a shitstorm of pro abortion activism. Their amendment proposal went down in flames by nearly 20 points.
Fast forward to this year where their strategy now was to revamp how KS Supreme Court judges were chosen. The system now is that the governor selects a new judge from three names submitted by a bipartisan panel. The GOP wanted to have judges elected rather than selected (because of course only the R’s will get elected). And once again they put the proposal on the primary ballot instead of the general election. And once again it went down by nearly the same margins as the abortion amendment four years ago.
It’s funny how Republicans say that they respect the will of the voters, but apparently that is only true if voters actually approve what the GOP wants.
The Republican Party today has been reduced to two basic principles:
- People like US can do what ever we want.
- People like THEM have to do what ever we say.
Next door in Missouri, there were two amendments no the ballot:
Amendment 4 - to make it basically impossible for a citizen submitted amendment to pass, but legislative initiated ones follow the current rules
Amendment 5 - eliminate income tax and reduce/eliminate property taxes, shifting the tax burden to sales tax and away from people like me. The beauty of this one is that the legislature could already do it, so no need for an amendment.
Both thankfully got crushed.
The administration has ceased shielding relatives of serving military personnel from deportation, breaking a long-standing policy.
Yeah – deport the relatives of people in your armed forces. That’ll be great for morale.
Trump’s people are evidently stupid for a living.
Being a Kansan, I decide which way to vote by looking at what the republicans support and voting opposite.
I was shocked at the margin of victory by the NO vote. I expected a close race, with YES winning. I was elated to see that the AP called the race an hour after the polls closed last night.
I’ll just add that since the right-to-life amendment was voted down in 2022, the super-majority Kansas GOP legislature has continually passed bills that whittle away at a woman’s right to choose. Fortunately we’ve had a Democratic governor who has vetoed all those attempts.
We can only hope that another Democrat, Cindy Holscher, gets elected in November. She’s running against Trump-endorsed MAGAt Ty Masterson, who won fairly handily in a crowded GOP primary yesterday.
As long as I have been living in Kansas, the pattern has been alternating Republican male and Democratic female governors. (Not counting the guy who filled out Sebelius’ term after Obama tapped her to run HHS.) Here’s hoping Holscher can break the cycle, because the GOP governors have just gotten worse and worse.
Or the guy who filled out Brownback’s term after Trump tapped him to be the United States Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom. Whatever that is.
