NEW Stupid Republican Idea of the Day (Part 4)

I remember some comedian many years ago joking about being in an internet discussion, where someone said, “Do you even like dogs?” And he replied, “Of course I like fucking dogs!”

And then he imagined years later the FBI would kick down his door, yelling, “You’re under arrest, dog-fucker!”

Now, they might come over and just want to hang out.

Thanks, Republicans, for making this shitshow a reality.

The astonishing thing about that whole exchange is that Kennedy managed to make Patel seem like a reasonable and competent person by comparison.

There’s a longer version of the conversation in the video in this link:

Also, does Kennedy say anything that isn’t sexual?

Senator Kennedy is only the second weirdest person named Kennedy in government today

Mike “Let My People Go Home Instead of Working” Johnson has adjourned the House for the rest of the year in order to avoid having to have a vote on impeaching Pete “WARRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!” Hegseth.

What a bunch of lazy cowards!

Well, a “Do nothing” Congress is probably a step up from a “Do What Trump Wants” Congress.

If the Dems prevail in the upcoming midterms, you should expect the same for the next two years. Dems won’t pass anything that Trump would sign, and Trump won’t sign anything that Dems would pass. Also, plan for bigger and longer federal government shutdowns over the budget.

If there are any Republican candidates on the ballot for November 3 who actually take questions (whether from the press, in debates, or in a rare Town Hall)--------they really should be asked if they support Kash Patel’s “prostitution and bestiality are Okay” initiative.
If so, why? Give details!

I’d differentiate between ‘Do Nothing’ and ‘Nothing Gets Signed’.

If the Democrats do win majorities, I’d expect at least more investigations and public disclosure of some of what is going on. I’d also expect fewer or perhaps no federal judge and executive appointment nominees get rubber stamped or even out of committee. And depending on the particular bill, even a few overridden vetoes.

That’s not ideal but it’s also not nothing. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people for whom that might as well be nothing and I also expect if it happens to see a lot of complaints that they are “doing nothing” when it comes around to 2028.

I don’t think that should stop them. Make him shoot down legislation.

That would be nice, but any witnesses they bring in need to be career civil servants who won’t lie for Trump, and are willing to risk being fired for telling the truth. Two years of the shit we always see from Kash Patel and the other idiots in the cabinet would be useless.

I agree, but we’ve already seen that “Bad optics” doesn’t affect Republicans the same way.

Absolutely true. But I still think they should make the president shoot down good legislation. Well, not make…he’ll just do it so the other side can’t have a win. That is no longer allowed. Even if it were a unanimous yes vote, he’d still strike it down because the other side has the majority.

It’s not just to score political points.

I want them under oath saying things that can be used as the basis for future prosecution, even if that could not possibly occur for at least a few more years due to the current makeup of the DOJ. Not only that but for legislators to actually, ya know, investigate and generate the sorts of responses that lead to finding other rocks to turn over. Things that are technically their Constitutional responsibility.

Cynicism aside that it’s all things that “everybody knows” or that it’s all political gamesmanship, some legislators do need to actually have a forum to sit down and ask their questions and hear these things (esp if they aren’t on that committee) and figure out if their priorities should shift. Most do have other tasks involving their constituents, so that chance to actually be forced to sit there and engage is useful. Stuff that Congress has done to a greater extent in years past and should get back into the habit of doing.

FFS, Democrats tried to push through legislation in the Biden administration that sought to tighten border security, and Republicans were on board until Trump (who was just a private citizen at the time) told them not to because he didn’t want to give Biden a win. They reversed course, killed the bill, and yet Trump and the other Republicans still got away with claiming that they were the party trying to secure the borders that Biden made wide open.

Though I don’t think that applies to everything; the public seems stuck on the idea that Republicans are better on border security, crime reduction, and fiscal responsibility, despite there being mounds of evidence to the contrary. (Especially that last one; the economy has done better under Democrats for decades.) They are vulnerable in other areas though. I think it will depend on what kinds of bills they are trying to push through.

Something to try to reduce the cost of gas and/or groceries (or at least publicly portrayed as such) could be something that hurts Republicans, for example.

The House Ethics Committee has received a report alleging that Lauren Boebert carried out a lesbian affair with one of her staff directors and bribed her to stay quiet.

Take this with a grain of salt, as it’s coming from the same “American Muckrakers” group that previously accused her on dubious evidence alleging that she had previously been a high-end call girl, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it were true.

Greade factory owned by Florida man, I mean congressman goes kablooie.

Hey, dat done blowed up real good! Bubba is proud.

Why were there still explosives in a factory that’s been closed for nearly a year?

And who had time to pull five thousand pins?
