Shepard showed DOJ officials internal documents from the Watergate Special Prosecution Force, the Journal reported. Special prosecutor Archibald Cox first led the team and then Leon Jaworski after Nixon demanded Cox be fired.
Shepard claims Cox and Jaworski violated defendants’ due process rights in the Watergate investigation by secretly meeting with judges overseeing their cases and suppressing evidence from their legal teams, according to the Journal.
Just another attempt to normalize criminal behavior by a president.
I’m so glad to hear that the Department of Justice is so lacking in other crimes and issues to investigate that they can devote resources to a fifty-plus year old case. Crime must be at an all-time low.
There are none so blind as those who refuse to look, much less see.
There are many conservatives who have wanted to re-litigate Watergate for years.
Maybe this is the break Nixon was looking for! He can be president again!
And note this was the Department of Justice under Richard Nixon investigating his own administration. It speaks to how much more independent the DoJ was in those days compared to the Trump administration, where it just does the president’s bidding.
As if Watergate was the sole example of Nixon’s corruption.

I couldn’t say, although it wouldn’t surprise me. An attempt to rehabilitate Nixon, and the notion that the Watergate investigation was actually an early example of a corrupt “deep state” bureaucracy targeting a President who threatened them, has been growing for some time. See this Politico article from 2023 about young conservatives and their attempts to rehabilitate Nixon’s reputation.
