NEW Stupid Republican Idea of the Day (Part 4)

I hope not.

If there is a Devil, he’s already planning to put Donald in a robot body—our President-for-Life for another Thousand Year Reich.

But maybe Don will leave us before the Devil can perfect his new metal body…

Yes, this is the fundamental difference. All the cited examples are of things that we thought were outrageous, and that we thought they should also think were outrageous, but when push came to shove, these were things the MAGAs just didn’t actually care about. To the extent that they were aware of the issues, it was all just “Meh”.

But the QAnon, “Dems are pedophiles”, “Global elite are harvesting children” stuff was foundational to a lot of MAGA support. Trump built on that to establish and solidify his base, and now he’s undercut that whole narrative, and this is an issue they actually do care about. It will be much harder for Trump to wiggle out of this.

Trump had it easy with his followers believing his lies, because most of his lies were him just telling them what they wanted to hear, like he’d bring back coal jobs or lower the price of groceries. But now he’s trying to tell them a lie they don’t want to hear, and he’s having a much harder time selling the lie.

Trump made a commemorative post today concerning the one year anniversary of his assasination attemp. My favorite reply…

I bleed more on my period and I do that every month!

And in case anyone asks, the lie they wanted to hear was “the conspiracy narrative was true and here are the names of the guilty and they are ALL Liberals or Old Establishment Republicans.”

This here is what you would call dangerously stupid. Republican-led Florida has taken to fucking with the state Department of Motor Vehicles. Their bugfuckery has resulted in people camping overnight outside the offices in order to make it in for their appointment (this much is confusing: an appointment should, you know, scheduled, for a time slot).
Part of the problem is that appointments are made on the DMV website. Being a sought-after service, naturally the appointment system has attracted its shared of automated harvesters, which scrape up slots and hold them for scalping. DMV does not charge people to make appointments, making them a delightful high-profit revenue generator for, someone.

“Government bad” – Rs continue to do their best to show how bad they can make it.

How does that work?

Here in Texas there’s also an appointment system (required, actually - if you walk in, you need to use an on-site kiosk to schedule an appointment), but it’s tied to your name and relevant information. How do you botch a system like that so just anybody can grab multiple appointment spots? And not just that but also trade them to other people? I know you can’t do that here. The person who shows up better be the person on the reservation.

Seems like an easy fix. Assuming they want to keep the appointment system, you make the appointment online, then when you show up your info has to be the same as the info on file for that appointment. If it doesn’t match, because you bought an appointment from a scalper, then you don’t have an appointment. It’ll be messy for a few days and people are still coming in the scalped appointments, but beyond that, without a market for the appointments, that should get rid of the scalpers as well.

FWIW, I see my state requires your Driver’s license or ID or Social Security number, date of birth and your zip code in order to make an appointment, so this doesn’t seem like a case for ‘what about people without IDs’, especially since if you’re going to the DMV, you very likely either have an ID or are getting one.

In fact, I see on the Florida DMV page, they require that info as well. How are they being scalped? Are the scalpers just putting in bogus information and DMV workers just correct it when the person shows up? If that’s the case, well, my fix still applies. The name on the appointment has to match the name of the person that shows up. Seems easy enough that I’m surprised it turned into such a big problem.

Is the state in on it?

Do bears shit in the woods?

Are they actually? Is there any proof or are you just making an assumption/joke?

This makes no sense to me. The article says that the “DMV cancels nearly 1,000 fake appointments daily across the state.”

So they know they are fake. Yet somehow the holder of the appointment can sell it? And they can legally sell it with written consent of the DMV?

Color me confused. Maybe @LSLGuy can weigh in and tell us how this works? Or any other Doper who lives in Florida?

The latter. But like others have said, it seems like it would be trivial for the state to crack down on this by forcing the maker of the appointment to provide their name and address when booking the appointment, and checking to see if the person who shows up to the appointment matches that.

The fact that they are not doing this looks very suspicious to me. It seems more likely than not that the scalpers are bribing and/or making campaign contributions to officials to maintain the current system.

Republicans believe that government can do nothing right and, when elected, set out to demonstrate it.

I can’t believe that he stole the FIFA Gold Cup. It’s currently in the Oval Office and FIFA had to give Chelsea a replacement one. I remember when Putin stole a Super Bowl ring… so I guess Rump is no different.

Holy shit! I thought that was a joke!

:scream:
There is just no low bar for this shite.

Why the fuck was he even there? What idiot invited him and let him go up on the platform? It seems like someone saying to a leopard “look at this nice tasty face!”

The tournament was held in the US as a trial run leading up to next year’s World Cup, so having leading political figures there wouldn’t be too unusual.

That said, even Hitler showed more decorum when Berlin hosted the Olympics. International sporting events are not, of course, the most important things, but it’s such a low bar not to be a total embarrassment to your own country.

It might be worth noting, though, that the source for that story is often referred to by Brits as the “Daily Fail”, so getting corroboration is recommended here.

Here’s The Guardian’s take. I stopped reading because there was a Trump quote, and I heard his idiot voice in my head.
